i recently got married for the second time (to zoomie!), and i kept my last name. i have had this name all my life and it would just seem weird to change it, it's part of my identlty. my daughter has the same name and my son, who has a different father, has it hyphenated. so we have 3 different names in our family now, and i don't think it makes us less of one. i never took my first husband's name either, but we did hyphenate...and our son's name is hyphenated like i said. another reason to keep my name is that i always sign my paintings with it and always have, just my last name and the date.
My mother went through that issue. When she started painting (or water coloring or printing) she signed with her maiden name. Then after marrying Dad, she signed with her married name. After they divorced she started signing with her first name. She always used the year, too, which is nice - no wondering when she did them as she's been gone for 18 years now.
my last name is really unique, so I kept mine. I use my husbands last name on certain things (like non-legal documents) and use mine for others (like my drivers license). I love my husband more than anything, so this isnt a reflection on him. I just like the fact that I am an individual and my name reflects that.
i'm planning on taking my husband's last name oh and on names and tradition, in hispanic countries, everybody has two last names.(traditionally) The unmarried girls and guys will have their father's first last name first, and their mother's first last name second, and when they get married they lose their mother's last name and gain their husbands'.
