It really depends on what part of the country you're from. Technically the rights exist, but the ability to exercise those rights may be restricted by the local culture. Take the right to an equal education, for example. Where I grew up, it was almost unthinkable that I wanted to stay in school after I got engaged (though at age 22, I was an "old maid;" should have been married by 17). My parents refused to tell me the tax info I needed to get financial aid, or to sign the paper saying they refused. If not for a convenient loophole a college worker found, my right to an equal education would have been impossible to exercise because I was a woman. Parents don't HAVE to give the info, though students need it, so I would have been out of luck. They didn't expect me to go to college at all, so I had to manage it myself as when I turned 18 they had never saved for such an event. They only didn't fight about me going to school at all because it didn't seem that I'd ever get a husband at all. Too ugly and too smart. In many homeschool families, and the choice to homeschool as the families see fit is legal in Illinois, they only offer daughters the bare legal minimum, with the constant addendum that "The state requires this, but you don't really need to know it because you're a girl." The daughters all know that at age 16 Mom and Dad are going to drop them out and find them husbands. They don't have the choice, unless they run off at age 18 and get a GED. I grew up with these girls, as I was a homeschooler. Dad didn't drop me out, though, as he wanted a back-up plan for us, but there was still the main expectation.
You're splitting hairs. I don't see anyone else offended but you. Coming in to a forum just to say "blah blah listen to me, I have a degree blah blah" is totally meaningless. This is the internet, and you could be the Queen of England, but people are not going to believe you just because you say so. By all mean, open a discussion, but cite something to back yourself up, not just say "I studied it, so I KNOW"...
I think it's rather appropriate, as most feminists seem to only have the female gender in mind, no matter what they say. Plus, it's named FEMinism. Doesn't sound so gender equal to me.
i had to study gender equity classes during graduation. when the lady professors handling the topics like women rights they became talkative. But i could find really good points which is true and realistic. We should respect the women.
The tides appear to be turning, not leveling. Women now have equal legal status + an image of caretaker and boss of their amazingly inept male counterparts.
