In a TV news item tonight a Red Crescent Worker said that they are struggling to help over 2 million displaced Syrian people within the Country. That Relief organisations have recieved less than half of the support that has been promised by Governments around the world. Meanwhile Syrian Children as young as five years old are begging on the streets of the Lebenon. The Red Crescent guy asked "why can't they convert their Cruise missiles & retaliatory strikes into shelter, food, blankets and medical supplies for the dispossesed children & people of this war"? Slamming Billions of dollars of ordinance into emptied target areas, risking the lives of innoscents is meaningless, even if the motivating principles are well meant. Assad cannot afford to change direction now & will not under military pressure, especially given Russias & Chinas support. I have not heard a single commentator in favour of military force as any solution here. Of the over 120,000 Syrians killed we don't know how many were civilians, caught in crossfire, carpet bombed by thr regime, willfully massacred by either side and killed by Assads chemical weapons. Our principles should be directed at protecting the living not simply avenging the dead or pretending to punish a regime that has no remorse & will not change. The West has an opportunity to try for a different outcome by taking a different course than gunboat diplomacy. That is to take neither 'side' and to discard military action as a means of delivering principles but to focus instead on a Humanitarian effort to meet the needs of the displaced, the injured & those whom have suffered in that war,by every means we can. That means seeing to it that the civilian Aid Agencies,on the ground in Syria & in the Refugee Camps beyond, get the supplies they need. That the Russians & Chinese supporters of Assad are 'called out' by the West to show, publiclly, their support for Syrians suffering this conflict by contributing resources in the humanitarian effort and seeing to it that they are delivered to places of greatest need. With a Humanitarian, rather than a military intervention (or the preaching of principles to the unprincipled), the States that support or are sympathetic to either side in this conflict, would have a non-violent investment & be more likely to be willing to influence both sides to seek a political solution. (Correction to above figures- 4.2 Million Syrians are displaced within their country, over 2 million Syrians have fled as refugees to neighbouring States.)
Now days, dreaming is much more preferable than reality. There's just no money in it for the military industrial complex. We've invested so much money in all those bullets and bombs, it just doesn't make sense to not use them up. And if we don't, we're going to have to lay off all those bomb makers.
The ops suggested course isnt without its flaws I admit. Assad is unwilling to negotiate with anyone as long as he can rely on Russias & Chinas backing. The above strategy attempts to shame the powers into switching the emphasis upon sides in this conflict to a Humanitarian one. That in sharing common concern for this wars victims and investing resources in their relief, the present stalemate of Wesr vs East might be eased, opening dialogue. Otherwise we are,so far, simply repeating the past. Yeah,I may be dreaming, are you happy with Syrias reality ? Do you have any suggestions,I mean apart from blaming it all on the 'military industrial complex' & the status quo? Then you file away your excuse for not dreaming under "Ain't nothin' we can do about it 'cause they are too big & powerful",'til the next time. Most of your responders accuse you of being of the Left. I don't. Being Left wing requires more than hating the Cons,or hurling abuse at anyone of a differing opinion. Being of the Left requires ,at least,an attempt at being progressive, suggesting positive courses of action. Its about trying to empower people against the big & the powerful forces. In the absence of that you're just another Reactionary.
I'm appalled, yet unsurprised, by how the mainstream media has treated the matter. Obama, weak, for not rushing into military conflict? Pfft. The US doesn't even have the moral high ground here. Sanctions and non-violent aid are the most honorable courses of action.
the non violent aid won't stop that regimen, the world must try to help freedom fighters in Syria. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4KCw9oepBRE"]Enfants victimes d'arme chimiques en Syrie - YouTube
Woohoo. This is the first time i agreed with the dope 100%. At least out of the times i knew what he was talking about.
No i mean people who had and was forced to carry weapons to defend their families againt that regimen forces. at first it was only demonstration and most of them were universities students but they were faced by all kind of crushing arressting and even killing. 7 months of peacful civil movemnets faced by all kind of force. Syrians got arresited just for posting the truth on facebook. That is how it started, so please if you dont want to do something to help then it is ok but do not change facts calling them tyrants. :bobby: tyrants are those regimen air forces who is bombing Syrian cities.
Summerhill Way back in 2001 I posted a plan for liberating Afghanistan from the Taliban. It involved taking over just a section of the country and turning it into one of the best darn places in the world to live, with a quality of life on a par with the best in the world. It would have a comprehensive welfare system, universal healthcare and education plus top notch infrastructure, water, sewage, electricity ect. The place wouldn’t be run by Americans or Europeans but by well educated moderates and lefties from around the Muslim world, (but the US etc would pay). You let Afghanis in if they renounced their tribal allegiances and abided by the rules of the place and every year or so expand the borders, it was long term and I thought would probably be cheaper than a purely military solution. It was tongue in cheek but I regret the humour now, and think it actually would have been better than what subsequently came about. Here again I would wish for the impossible – what’s needed is an enclave for the Syrian people (not the Assad forces or the rebel fighters) set up as I describe above. * The problem is I’m conflicted I’ve never liked the Assad’s regime but I look at many of the rebels and don’t see a lot I like.
Did anyone see the programme by Dan Snow on the history of Syria it gives a good background to the problems in the area. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ln8-_9D_a88"]A History Of Syria With Dan Snow - YouTube
What a wonderful experience. Our enemies are killing our enemies. Nice. How can we insure this will continue? If managed properly , perhaps we could propogate the "cleansing" of the area. Could isreal finally man up and be of assistance and start kicking moslim ass ?
I'm glad you're a minority. Otherwise there might be need for some cleansing in your area. No this was not a threat If they are suicidal perhaps.
Hey dude, if that was not a threat , WTF was it? You sir, are a coward. Don't threaten me and then back down. Another spineless euro.
They have fought 3 wars, launched numerous punitive strikes, and carried out an untold number of covert and clandestine strikes/missions against these "barbarian invaders" as you call them. It might be beneficial to know something of their history before you start running that ignorant mouth of yours.
If we look at it objectively I don't see why the state of israël isn't considered the invasive party. They are already pushing it with certain building projects in dubious areas. The sure thing to get this whole thing escalating into more civilian bloodshed is for Israël to get aggressively involved in this. And which muslims should they actually attack? I guess that doesn't really matter in riptides universe.
