You have given several opinions thus far,
none of them stating that you have had synthetic dreadlocks, and none about them at all...

are you immune to your own rule?

    regardless,

    It doesn't matter..

I wish the original poster the best of luck!

Yeah I'm not really sure about all this. Is it really that important what people define as "dreadlocks"? I'm not really a fan of that total neat style personally, although having said that I'm quite aware that many people probably think my dreadlocks probably look too neat to be defined as "locks". For some all out neglect is the only way, and anything else is wack. whereas others choose to maintain more i.e rip apart stuff some loose hair in, crochet, or whatever.

As long as the OP has done his research into the different methods and reasons that some people have for dreading, and is aware how some people are going to react is the main thing I think.

I do realise that for many extensions is one step too far, but I still think it's hard to draw the line at any one particular point, and say one is more wrong than the other. I just think there are probably more important things to be worring about than bitching over different methods, (which of course begs the question as to what I'm doing here myself!:D) So on that note I think I'l stop rambling.:cheers2:

uhm...I think they look bizarre and totally manufatured....but thats just my personal opinion. OP....do what you want and dont worry what others have to say. As Hellodread already mentioned....i dont think you'll find anybody on here with permenant extensions so you'll just have to learn from your own experience there. Good luck! Post pics! =]

Its only hair, Do what you want. If u want to take a fast route for dreadlocks ,go for it. Its your head, your hair, you do what makes you happy. I do think they look really weird though to good to be true, i can just see them snapping off one by one after a few months. I dont know why it just look like they would fall off after a couple months. Mah ...

    *Edit*

Only because i have had hair extensions in the past and they only last 3 weeks. No idea how the dreads are put in but, i dont see them lasting a long time..

I feel the same way.I honestly think I sort of wanted that fakey look when I started. But oddly enough when I look in the mirror I find myself loving the loops and the frizz and the way it changes.

OP- Do what you want. I did sort of look into synths (thinking about adding them to my hair while it grew before I started dreading)- pretty much everything I have read or heard from others suggests it is a very temporary thing. Not something I would eave in long.
I think, If you want in it for the long haul you just have to put in the work.- or in this case deal with the "ugly" time.
If you just want a temp cool look then sythns would be the way to go.

Yep, thats what i read about them too. I heard some places will even promise a good long term set to up to 6 months, then end up falling out after a couple months. So then you have to get them sewn back in which can cost another $150. Its a scam /Rip off..

I was thinking the same thing about the girl Lux posted pix of.

Anyways, my two friends had long extensions put in last year. At the beginning they crocheted a lot, but one (that i know of) has stopped or least rarely does it. I think they look good, but hers don't look like the pictures from the website. She has loose hairs and loops that have formed and her tips are still a little wispy. I know they both used knotty boy soap and the cooling spray and they had no problems with it. It's still human hair ..just not your hair. Oh and they were really itchy for the first while when they got them.

IDK if that helps but it's all the experience I have on the matter.

i think ill just get them and see for myself to be honest! Thanks for all your comments guys, i thought there would be some people with some long term extensions to add their advice etc.

Its ironic how this is such a friendly forum but as soon as someone mentions synthetic dreads people cast judgement. I like the neat look and to me it doesn't look fake! Im not offended and appreciate everyones comments, a few of them were very supportive and encouraging!

    Thanks

I dont think it is a scam. The guy that does them here makes beautiful locks and they are permanent. He crochets your hair into the extensions then glues them and gives you all the information about root maintenance... i.e. getting your roots to lock, essentially locking as a normal dread would but with an extension attached to the end.
In terms of them falling out... how would they? If the roots are healthy.. i.e. your normal hair and in time locks to the extension and vice versa then they wont fall out! Poor root maintenance or bad attachments would make them fall out... anyhow I have only started researching so could be wrong!

Stay AWAY from hair glue it's burned the scalp of friends that use it on regular extensions as well as causing them to get bald spots.

Thats what im saying that Glue is horrible for your hair as hellodreadhead also said. In results glue only last 4 weeks. are you going to keep gluing, or is it just one time?

I thought about getting the dread extensions, I honestly I did. As i read into them i heard from many girls its a scam and they fall out with in months. Maybe Yes they didnt take care of them, either way i wouldnt spend $150 on something you can not be certain about. Thats why i decided to just go ahead and dread my head. I let them go natural for a couple weeks, now i got them tightened and will keep doing so, which is Un natural but i dont care, because i do like the nice neat look. I need a job and to keep a job and im not going to, if i have a big mess on my head.

Really if you want the syth dreads go for it , but if u where u try getting real ones and keep them maintenance. I have seen a few girl on here with wonderful look dreads with in 5 months.. If thats not soon enough then do what you need to do then..

Good luck and i hope they turn out great for you.. :D

And DHHQ say wax is a natural product too but you wouldn't use that. Anyway good luck with the guy and I hope you get desired results :)
