Didn't think I'd actually hear on of these stories in person, but lo and behold. Today in the locker room, everyone was just chilling out waiting for the bell to set us free. I started singing some Bob Marley tunes, I'm pretty much known for always singing. I guess that sparked a memory in some kid's head, so he and I were discussing dreads. He briefly mentioned how he had them for a month but they weren't for him. So I asked him exactly what he meant. Well, he elaborated and told me his story. He bought Dreadwax from DreadHead HQ, and applied as instructed. Yet, he said he was under the impression that Dreads were supposed to look neat all the time, said the jar of wax. So whenever he got the slightest frizz, he applied some more wax. He'd take a shower, and then some MORE wax. And so on and so forth. He would wash with super cold water because it got really goopy and smelled like shit, and he said the cold water helped it. Well, we all know that it just hardens the wax...... So after he did that, he loved his fair for a day or two, until it started to become WAY to stiff. Then he washed with hot water, and loved his hair until it melted again. He told me how people all around him were constantly complaining about the smell, and in more than one occasion people pointed out the massive amounts of shit in his hair. So he spent months after that, combing and washing out the wax. He literally cringes at the sight of them, and was disgusted at how I was actually looking forward to beautiful locks. Way to go wax eh?
ive actualy heard of parents whod only allow theyre kids to get dreads if they did it at a salon and used wax
I waxed when I had them backcombed 3 weeks ago. Since then I put a tiny bit more in once but dont intend to put any more in coz it doesnt really do much for the dreads except make them feel sticky. Tell Dreadhead HQ their comb was very good though
damn just watched that, u notice the hair after wax was even a different shade? ewwww it looked nasty no wonder so many ppl think dreads are gross the woman doing it, had no dreads, why? my guess is she used wax and had to remove them...1st clue to be wearry of the techniques is when the person suggesting them doesnt even have dreads herself wonder if anyone at knottyboy or dreadheadhq actualy has dreads i watched both parts of that vid, it was really really sad..that poor guy sure would love to see what his hair looked like a year later crew cut maybe?
well if you saw my thread I used wax however I survived =D I'm still tempted to use it but I'll take everyones word here ^^;;. Though yea I didn't like the way it felt when my "dreads" were in and when I took them out and the wax was left. Theres hardly any wax in my hair now and it feels so much fresher =D. I also like the natural feel better too, as long as it holds >> Wax=Babylons creation (yea I have millions of babylon conspiracy theories and I just got into rasta >>)
