MSN According to this article, researchers have figured out how to use carbon coatings made out of waste products, to reduce the friction on anything to almost zero. For example, if you coated your car engine with it, it could easily save money on gas, and extend the life of your engine indefinitely. Already, researchers have found new alloys that are practically indestructible, so you could theoretically start designing engines with the fewest parts, and lowest friction, that last forever. Note, this is not friendly with Wall Street, who like regulate all the technology, but all the technology is about to change. Its a minor example of what is called "disruptive technology" because academia can't control it, like AI. With WWIII ongoing, it means indestructible terminator robots, that are deadly silent.
Looks cool, but if I understand and did the math right, they only achieved a life of 150,000 cycles. If we apply this to an automobile engine turning at 5,000 RPM (my one car red lines at 7,000) the coating would last for 30 minutes. 150,000 /5,000 revolutions per minute = 30 minutes
