In 1972, the Democratic Party elected a politician so left, he lost the race. The Republican, Richard Nixon, was re-elected ina landslide. Nixon prolonged a war, and people died. From what I've heard, the Democratic Party created Super Delegates, to prevent un-electable folks from getting nominated. Sounds like a good thing to me. Similarly, I will never stop blaming Ralph Nadar for the dead of the Iraq War, as third parties at the Presidential level do nothing but give the election to one of the 2 major parties, while claiming the 2 parties are identical.
Super Delegates were put in place to prevent grass roots candidates from winning the general election - and only Democrats use them.
