Guess it's time to move on from spring... post your summer pics here! A heron showed up at the lake again today. Third time this year. Sometimes you don't see one for years. He didn't stay long this time. He did a 180 turn, looked around for a few minutes and flew off.
I know what the heron was looking for. His little one! It took me a few minutes to realize this was probably a baby heron! I was wondering why the goose or duck's body was under water. At least I think it's a heron. It also had that same quick snap of the neck looking around, and they always tend to turn around and look straight at you, whereas the other water fowl generally don't. The only thing I'm not sure of is the beak, specifically the tip of the beak. Not sure if that's a heron's beak. If anyone can tell by the pic that it's another bird, let us know.
Hello, just found this comrade: It's about 7 to 8 centimetres in size. Regards Gyro PS: After posting I wanted to see if he's OK and show him the way outside, but he's gone as quick as he came in.
Hello, ah, I just discovered that the english term is indeed grasshopper. He's back. He's running on the walls like a fscking gecko . Regards Gyro
Hello, yepp, I wasn't aware that in English the term grashopper is used for, well, grasshoppers and orthoptera. Regards Gyro

Hello, I'm about to go to bed in an hour or so. You shouldn't come up with such stories now... . The green guy is now hiding behind the blinds. I hope he will be quiet during the night. Regards Gyro
Hello, imagine the moon shining in and casting a huge shadow of that guy on the wall... Fortunately it's new moon . Regards Gyro

heron are common here..so much that i dont bother taking pictures lately..this one is from a few years ago yesterday i saw a farm field full of sandhill cranes
That must have been neat. They're the ones with the red head, right? Yeah, I'm thinking herons are more common here than people think. There's a bird sanctuary in LaSalle and apparently a lot of birds from there fly up here.
I see blue herons sometimes by my parents cabin (can't call that thing a cottage lol) and it is always so exciting! They are very graceful creatures. I love watching them. You got some lovely shots lucy!
