I've been looking at some unusual British dishes: Spotted dick Faggots and peas Bangers and mash Bubble and squeak What would you consider a strange or funny name for a dish ?
Since I'm in America, I do know that Brits think our breakfast of biscuits and gravy... Is odd since our biscuit is a plain scone and not a sweet cookie, ( and the gravy has sausage cooked and crumbled in a creamy gravy with lots of pepper)
i think the brits must love to play with their food, as all the furst ones to come to mind are from there. the op already mentioned a couple of them. to me, kidney pie sounds really odd. as does haggis. outside of gt brit, there's bratworshed, however its spelled. there are some southeast asian things that i forget what their called. there are also of course, things actually made from ingredients stranger then there names, but of course that's a seperate subject. fine foods, unapitizingly named, made from perfectly innocent things, i think gt brit is champ for coming up with those.
Sounds good darlin' but I bet our 'fry up' breakfasts beats it - Eggs, bacon, sausages, black pudding, mushrooms, baked beans, toast & coffee !!!
WE have a dish called boneless birds. It's a strange name for a dish because it's a beef dish, there are no birds in it, nor any bones for that matter
