In Asia a lot. I assume it's a cultural thing. Maybe I looked like someone famous. Like Godzlla. If only more people complained on the internet.
I think I would tend to assume I just ended up in a picture as I was in the way of what they were intending to capture. In that case it would not concern me. I can't say I have ever felt that someone was trying to take my picture in a public venue on purpose.
Random strangers take pictures of my boyfriend all of the time because he has really long dreadlocks. They are usually tourists though and they are trying to get some of that Humboldt County feeling.
I'm naturally paranoid so I would think they're trying to document my face for whatever reason (even though they would be surreptitious).
People always took my photo in China, sometimes they asked sometimes they didn't..the Tibetans were the worst, they once came to my place of work walked right up to my face and started snapping photos without a word... even a simple hello might have been nice.
The only time this ever happened was about 8 years ago. Me and my Sergeant were at a Piano Bar in Savannah GA. My wife was out of town seeing family at the time. I walk up to the podium and put in a request. Well there were a bunch of hot girls right there sitting at the first few tables, and as I was walking down one of them comes up to me and asked if they could all get a picture with me. It was a bachelorette party. No problem I say... I walked back to my table and my Sergeant asked "What was that all about?" I replied with "No clue" I don't know why they did it, whether it was a joke or something... I'll never know.
Yes. I've had my picture taken at protests. Once, I was at the federal parliament building looking at the torch flame, and a journalist took a few pictures, and then came up to me to have my name. But it's not that creepy.
It has happened to me and my family a few times during road trips but maybe they thought my husband was Chong. One time they also took photos of our 1975 Buick which had an antique rocking horse on top. My ex husband got mad at them and yelled at them for invading our privacy.
