Most of the time my dreams are very coloruful. But there was a stage in my film studies class when we were in the 1920's and watched a lot of black and white silent films.

I had some black and white dreams then.

I wonder if black and white dreams were much more common when black and white photography/film existed.

^ not anymore. in my experience, any sort of substance use has no real bearing on dream recollection anyway. i've done a lot of substances, and i've done sobriety, and i remember about the same amount of dreams either way.

and in all of the above situations, i remember a decent amount of dreams just after waking, but within a couple hours they're mostly gone.

When I dream, it looks exactly like reality to me. It's not blurry, black and white, nor is there any kind of visual cue to me "this is a dream".

I have ok to very good recall of my dreams. The stranger (or more meaningful) to me, I'll remember for years and years.

Just my "regular" or "regular strange" dreams, I usually forget within a day unless it becomes a recurring dream.

Dream recall to me is the same during periods of smoking, not smoking, edibles, no edibles and even after taking a sleeping pill.

    Yes I have.

To be accurate, I've even had "Film Noir" type dreams. Complete with the voiceover commentary.

I've also had dreams that were in the style of various artists, like LS Lowry, Edward Munch (eg The Scream), and others.
    Weird stuff... :- /

Your dreams are way more interesting than mine...usually mine are situations I experience in day to day life but exaggerated or distorted. Example being I once dreamed I couldn't figure out which apartment number mine was (8 doesn't seem difficult when awake) and I got trapped in endless identical hallways and doors and when I reached a last door it was a vast and empty parking lot with thugs waiting to stab me.

my dreams generally look like normal life too. people and places look different from what they actually look like, and the laws of physics are commonly distorted, and there are a bunch of other cues to tell me i'm dreaming. but visually, they look like normal earth.

i think the biggest stylistic deviation i've had was the time i dreamed that i was on a large ship full of monsters, and i was killing them all using the VATS system from the fallout games. you know, this thing:

might night vision is just as good in dreams as it is when awake. colors are muted by it, but i can still distinguish them. in dreams though, it is usually an almost purfact spring day, with lots and lots of green.

cities are unusual in my dreams, though they exist there. but black and white, no. i remember when that kind of film was cheaper and i took a lot of pictures with it, back in the day before digital cameras, which i wish had existed then.

I had this pretty cool dream years ago that I got to hang out with the Beatles. Paul And Ringo were in color. John and George were in black and white. This was a year or so after George passed. I'll never forget how cool/weird that dream was.
