David Foster Wallace (February 21, 1962 – September 12, 2008) was an award-winning American author of novels, essays, and short stories, and a professor at Pomona College in Claremont, California. He was widely known for his 1996 novel Infinite Jest. In 2005, Time magazine included the novel in its list of the 100 best English-language novels from 1923 to the present.

Los Angeles Times book editor David Ulin called Wallace "one of the most influential and innovative writers of the last 20 years". Wallace's unfinished novel, The Pale King, was published in 2011, and in 2012 was a finalist for the Pulitzer Prize.

Mel, do you feel your backward magick thinking is helpful? Sorry you lost your dad young, I did not know this. That piece of writing you did is really good by the way.

Autumn here is warm and wet. And windy.

 

I'm mostly better from a brief cold but I feel like my head is in a bubble or underwater or something. I hate it. I like feeling alert and sharp.

 

I can't do snow yet. I have to put a tarp up on part of my roof so it doesn't leak in the spring.

 

My daughter has finally stopped crying when she gets in the school bus. I hadn't realized how much anxiety it was causing me in the mornings until now. She went from being upset and anxious every morning to bouncing off of the walls excited.

 

Nah it really isnt helpful. Maybe when I was younger it helped me deal with some of my fears but now I just mostly recognize that it's an unhealthy thought pattern. I'm trying to break out of the habit of doing it

I may be guilty of that kind of thinking sort of what I tend to do is I avoid situations that sound like they would be a strange or terribly ironic news story
Friend since I would never climb a ladder above a metal fence to cut a tree because the headline would be man chainsawing tree limb impaled on fence
That kind of thing

As I get older and see the perspective of parents, it really opens my eyes to what my own parents went through. I used to cry before school a lot, when I was really young.. It makes me want to go and give my mother a hug to apologize for the anxiety that probably caused her : )

I want to hug the whole world right this moment. It's easy to think people are terrible but look at humanity as if you were its parent and suddenly you just want to give it a hug.

The chat room I used when I was 14 used to turn the word "fuck" into "hug" and that ruined the word for me sometimes.
