so yesterday I was at the home depot and I saw a lady there with a retarded child.
here I am parked with handicapped and she is not. walking with the child might not to to hard, he seemed under control. but my heart couldnt stop me from doing something..
I walked up to her and said Im sorry I dont mean to startle you, but I see you are not parked closer to the store and I am, and why dont you have a handicapped place.
she said a little story about how hes not handicapped enough or does not meet the standard, and the state hasnt given her one.
I want you to have this. and I handed her my handicapped mirror tag, and said nobody is going to ask you about. it expires in 5yrs so after that It wont be any good after that and maybe by that time you can get one yourself. she said thank you, and I could see she was about to tear because I was ..

at my appointment yesterday i found out that my TSH (thyroid hormone) levels are within normal range. i havent been medicated for probably two years, ran out and never made it back to the endocrinologist.
it is incredibly fantastic news for me, and one i predicted years ago, when i chose to keep the offending gland and not have it removed or killed by radiation (result of that choice is permanent hypothyroidism, and hormone replacement pills forever). there was one less invasive procedure, but it was not (and still isnt, as far as i know) available in this country for use on the thyroid. they use it on brains just fine though, go figure. (arterial embolization, in case youre wondering)

so monday i think i might call my old endo's office and let her know. she was a good doc to and for me, and in case she has a similar patient one day, i want her to have the anecdote in her repertoire of information.

some of the sun is hanging out in colorado today, so im going to have my tea and go pull weeds.

Ive both plate and mirror tag / so having both is kinda useless to me. maybe better she has it. my disability is just spine and neck damage. Im fine with walking the extra mile, but sometimes I use it,, like when raining or Ive to carry something heavy. I dont go shopping enough really for it all to matter. the mirror tag tho matches a wallet id #. I doubt any mall cops would ask for it.

<3 <3 families of children with special needs go through a lot. Probably more than most of us can imagine. Every little thing helps.

 

I worked in an institution that cared for mentally challenged . It closed yrs an ago now they live in apartment living. So I am comfortable around them, as well approach to people caring for them. a routine interference could cause problems. I was lucky to have got the moment after placing him in the car and out of sight. I watched her walking the distance and my heart took over before I could leave, I was done with my business and going home.

I also ran into a dear friend of mine who I've not seen in years at home depot. Guess I was supposed to be there at this time.

 

ended up going to help my brother go through some stuff, then swung by my dad's.
its getting a lot worse.
my middle brother is going to stay with him as well as the brother who is already living there.
but this shit is so hard. i cant stand seeing him suffer. its crushing. fuck cancer.

Mirror tag is used if someone else is driving the disabled person in their car. My brother and I both had mirror tags to use when we would drive Dad where he needed to go.
