The huge misunderstanding that women haven't contributed anything significant to hip hop in the posts above is one of the reasons they need their own episode.

Clearly a game changer but I did hear a reference to Jar Jar Binks, so I assume she was/is post-millenum stuff. Sounds like the documentary is like 80's - 90's stuff.

Honestly, any documentary about hip hop and rap that doesn't include the emerging Juggalo scene of the 90s thanks to the Detroit scene is missing a pretty huge part of the scene.
Though 99% of people will never give it a chance, there's no disputing how high it reached without mainstream support, no radio, no video. Only ever trashed and shat on, labels pulling out. In fact, it was because of major record labels that ICP gained the height they did. Until this happened ICP was only ever known in Detroit. They threw darts at maps blindfolded. One dart landed on Dallas at the other end of the country. They packed up and hit every high school in the area flinging out free CD samples. People listened, people enjoyed. "well that worked, let's throw another dart". They had to do this because no record label would touch them. Then came along Hollywood Disney Records. "You can't put this shit on a CD!!" pulled the record hours before its release. When the news spread USA wide, The Great Milenko went PLATINUM. All sorts of labels wanted to sign ICP, they did Woodstock and became bigger. In the end, they spit on all labels and continued to do their own thing up to this day they've never been supported by the mainstream media, yet their cunningness and relentless attitude to release music just continues to grow.

Artists like Tech N9ne and the majority of the underground thank ICP for doing what they did or else they would never have been able to become who they are today. Eminem, probably would not have come about either had it not been for the underground Detroit scene. Eminem only got people to his shows by putting on his flyers that ICP might show up. When ICP asked him why he was doing this, there was beef. Eminem didn't like the heat thrown at him. Eminem also tried paying Twiztid $300 to play his shows knowing that the majority of their fan base would become his fan base, white trash.

Whether people like it or not, ICP have done wonders with their self reliance and relentless pursuit in the underground community scene and they've everything, if not more, than mainstream artists and didn't need big booty to get it done, all they needed were real individuals to speak to.

Eminems tantrums at ICP only gained ICP more popularity, especially when they made Eminem cry live on national radio with a diss song. Until then, Eminem had a free ride dissing anyone he wanted, not many had the balls to diss back. Not ICP, they didn't care. Machine Gun Kelly just tried the same thing and is now gaining popularity within the underground. Though I think MGK has already sold out.

ICP now has gold records and platinum records, they routinely make the billboard top 100, top 10 in releases too. They have their own full length movies, over 30 albums, they own their own merch line, their own record label, their own annual circus, their annual Whoopstock, Hallowicked shows etc. They also had their own TV show, which was literally a IRL Beavis and Butthead, they watched popular music shows and commented and poked fun at them for half an hour. They were even invited to a major music awards night about a decade ago.

It annoys people that Juggalos exist, but all they see are a few a random photos and think well this must be it, they don't want to know about anything they do that shines them in positive light, instead they only focus on the negatives. You won't hear people talk about the toy drives, the food drives, the charity drives and anything a group of white trash actually does for a community when they couldn't even afford to. ICP even marched on Washington to help most independent artists, when the police arrest people for simply wearing rap shirts and logos, the FBI classed these as "gang signs" and put all Juggalos on the National Report for gang members. ICP marched on Washington with no help whatsoever, even from active Juggalo bands who wanted nothing to do with it.

ICP is a people band, it's more than music, it's a way of life and I for one am grateful I had the opportunity to grow up in it because it has definitely shaped the way I am today. They've achieved more than what current mainstream artists can ever dream off, and they did it all with the sweat on their back, face paint and Faygo.

I have been blessed to see and meet ICP twice. Here are some really shit pictures of the last gig. :D Front row, drenched in cola after 20secs :D and the confetti and the water cannons. I even was allowed up on stage at the end to spray the remaining cola, but I didn't want to leave crowd to get in, so I stayed front row and shook my butt. :)

John Mayer pisses me off because he's actually a really talented musician but he wastes so much time writing shitty pop songs and being douchey

The other huge thing ICP did compared to anyone else in the music industry was create their mythology. We know this as the Dark Carnival.
The Dark Carnival preached Shangri La, that all Juggalos should bind together to reach this goal, heaven.
Within the surrounds of the Circus tents and carnival atmosphere and music, what ICP was doing was telling the story of the bible.
Each Jokers Card "LP" was very specific in the mythology.
It opened up with Carnival of Carnage which was the second coming.
The Ringmaster, was God, leader of the Carnival
The Riddlebox, a form of limbo, if the lyrics were ever decoded and the riddles answered you would begin to learn the secrets of the mythology
    The Great Milenko, Satan
The Amazing Jeckel Brother, the Juggling duo, are you going to heaven or hell? they decide
And finally came The Wraith, AKA death who brought you there.

Underneath the torment, the death, the killings... was all a very positive message. They knew nobody cared, nobody would listen without the wicked shit around it. So they did it very subliminally. In fact 15yrs after they surfaced, they lost a huge amount of fans by coming out as Christian. That's how riddled their lyrics are, but like they say "all the messages and hints were there although most never picked up on em, we snuck em in subliminally with the wicked shit around em, we mentioned more and more of this on every Jokers Card, the bottom line, always the same, you ain't have to look hard"

The song means so much to them, they've only ever played it live twice.
When all the people come out at the end, that's what I was meant to do. :p but I stayed in the crowd. No wonder clubs don't like to book them, what a mess. :)

I expected as much. Doesn't bother me, I wrote it for myself firstly. I know nobody is going to read it. They have pre determined misconceptions that they hold onto too firmly.
If that documentary has any validity, there'll be a segment about what I speak of, but I doubt it.

My dad never liked them, too much swearing and violence. But he did tell me "I'm not sure if you know it yet, but they're very clever in what they write" and he was right, I never got it. It took time, I wasn't old enough to understand metaphors etc. Kudos to my dad though. :) I love how he really got into the things we enjoyed even when he didn't enjoy them himself, he knew we were having fun and that it was fun. Yeah, I even caught him reading lyrics in my cd sleeves. :p he even read the ICP biography. My dad is cool. :)

    I have a confession.

I never got into ICP but in high school I did listen to a little Twiztid here and there

They're two totally different outfits. :)
ICP rely on their carnival image, so the music often sounds like sideshow alley whereas Twiztid concentrated on rapping.
IMO Twiztid are some of the most talended rappers out there with their lyrics and their flow, for white guys lol.

ICP and Twiztid split ways a few years ago and have since then, divided the Juggalo fan base. They no longer get along. Twiztid went on to create their own record label signing several new artists that never were going to get a chance. They're doing really well on there own now. :)

We are now divided into ICP juggalos, and Twiztid Juggalos. we call those ones, Twizzlers :p

ICP have started to hit out at social, religion and political problems. They aren't scary in their lyrics as they once were. It's taken time, but I do like the new sound and the positivity.

Earlier this year ICP was on a heavy metal festival, nobody wanted them there. They were the best act there though, the best show, the best everything and really turned heads. Nobody likes to admit they listen to them, but i'd say a good 60% of people I have show? music to will admit they aren't as bad as what people make them out to be, often always getting a laugh out of everyone who does listen. That's what it's about.

When I was 20 I lived in Denver and I got the impression somehow that ICP fans were infatuated with heavier women. For some reason I thought that was cruel. But before I ever lived in Denver there was a girl named Nicole I knew from an English class. She loved ICP and I got to listen to it a bunch in her car as she would give me a ride. I don't know what album, but there was something that didn't sit right with me about it. I couldn't be an ICP fan, but I've been exposed to their talent/humor before.
