^ My best friend does this and I'm always calling him out on it.
It bothers me, because how do you talk about the REALLY AWESOME things if you call everything awesome. It ruins words.

I've been more aware of how often I use awesome lately, actually. I read an article a while back about how Americans use the word way too much, and then some of you Europeans here were talking about it recently lol

I guess I should dust off the old thesaurus and come up with some more precise descriptors

But in all fairness it's just meant as slang, not meant to be taken literally. No, that awesome pizza I ate last night didnt actually inspire awe

Plenty of europeans taking it over as well btw. Especially younger people. I think i use words like awesome more on here too. Its just one of the most common ways to describe stuff in (american) english and after all im just trying to communicate in that language. ;)
I especially dislike the OMG thing. Lots of people overuse it. But yeah, it rivals stuff as awesome, and wow that's amazing and perfect

We were talking about the excesses... Nothing wrong with just being nice. Exaggerate it too much and often and it almost reaches the opposite effect :p Like certain americans already noticed with canadians and started to stereotype them with it

Yeah... should have checked it. Link doesn't work for me either, although it did earlier.

Suffice it to say, Florida Man is a fucking nutjob.

bespoke (made for you) clothes are FAR superior to off-the-rack stuff, especially when its something that should fit like a pair of pants, or a jacket. being able to make/ alter your own stuff is an under-appreciated skill. if you keep developing that skill, you can start charging for alterations or custom work. i highly recommend Angela Clayton on youtube, she drafts her own patterns, which is just amazeballs to me. i need a better dress form to be able to do that.

i think it would be great to have the option available. hubby lost his job because i was at the hospital with the baby for 3 weeks and someone had to take care of our big kid. family leave, paternity/ maternity leave, lower barriers to workforce reentry. hell, even if we just could live comfortably and save a little on one income. we can live, but we only survive on one income because i pinch pennies and hunt and torture quarters until they tell me where their friends are hiding. i cook good food, use cheap ingredients. grow what i can. i dont like to buy clothes. if i ask for stuff, its usually equipment to make something else easier in my life, because its hard to do everything and reinvent the wheel ALL the time.
i think the healthcare system is the biggest single overhaul we could do to bring everyone a step up. the cost of car insurance, health insurance would suddenly be in pockets instead of chewed up by companies who dont care. pay extra for a gold-plated MRI machine if you want to/ have the money, but most people dont need that. most people just want results. they just want to feel better, and not be bankrupted. right now, its easier and far cheaper to die. it shouldnt be like that.

as to language, i am trying to eliminate ableist language. dumb, lame, stupid. insane. turn a blind eye, falls on deaf ears. its not easy, these words/ phrases are ingrained in how we talk about the world, but there are other better words that dont require you to stomp on a disability or illness to make your point.
    and in other news...
