A small electrical zap to the brain could help you retrieve a forgotten memory

This article merely discusses one area of the brain recently discovered to respond to electrical stimulation by enhancing memory recall. Around the Hippocampus is where most of the action has been measured and is steadily being researched, but others have shown that even low frequency brainwave stimulation can produce dramatic results. Memories themselves have proven to be contextual, obeying complex fuzzy logic, but the steady advances being made in comprehending the electrical fields of the brain hold the promise of being able to measure its impact with incredible precision, and coming up with safe and cheap ways to stimulate memory recall and even regrow neurons and pathways. Part of my own work is aimed at just this sort of fuzzy logic that can, sometimes, make all the difference in the world, by simply paying attention to what's missing from this picture. As strange as it might sound, there is evidence that the ability to memorize things is as much about what to forget as it is how to remember.

Interesting study, I suppose the pursuit of this knowledge is worthwhile but I didn't read anything about any practical applications.

Maybe I glossed over it but I'm wondering if this technique could be used for alzheimers or amnesia in the future.

The first brain prosthetics are already in use, and they are hoping to be able to cure just about the worst alzheimers imaginable within ten years at most. All the other advances and applications are too numerous to mention but, suffice it to say, the world will never be the same again and, within half a century, neurological problems should be fairly well understood. The evidence implies the brain is intimately related to our immune system, and understanding one means comprehending both and our senses as well. Current progress in neurology has even out paced that of physics.

My own research indicates the brain evolved to help our senses agree on what to ignore, and emotions such as disgust have been linked to avoiding things like diseased carcasses.

Electric shock does work. I was changing an electrical outlet recently and had forgotten to shut off the breaker. When I was shocked, I remembered what I had forgotten.

Yeah, nothing wrong with a little electroconvulsive therapy (ECT) every once in a while to help stimulate the little grey cells...lol..
