While I was looking for some reading material on Buddhism, I found Stephen Batchelor's two books: Buddhism Without Beliefs and Confessions of a Buddhist Atheist. Working my way through Buddhism Without Beliefs now. I haven't read many books on Buddhism, but I'm diving in. I was wondering about the extent that Batchelor's views are accepted by Buddhists in general? How prevalent is this idea of a "secular Buddhism"? Thanks! Peace :daisy:
I am a secular Buddhist, just as the original Buddha was. Any kind of buddhism which is not secular is not "pure buddhism" imo. If you are a buddhist who believes in a diety, observe your belief in the context of attachment; why is it that you need this god belief, what does it do for you, could you exist without this belief, would a removal of this attachment liberate you from suffering . . . . all hard questions to ask yourself.
