LOL, you think society has advanced? :smilielol5: The more people, the more bad ideas we have to sort through to get to the good ideas...and only if they are compatible with capitalist values will they be considered.
I think numbers helped the human race to a certain extent, or more apt, point - but now it is slowing us down; and hurting the average quality and depth of life as well. One seed of disinformation gets out and it's viral for months before the correction starts trying to play catch up.
In some ways certainly, about the thing you're laughing at, yes a little. You think the opposite? But what I really agree with is that we owe our advancement for a large part to how easy the information is shared.
Yebbut,y'gotta admit,Asmo-'civilized' usually means 'regulated'. As in,the more 'civilized' a place is-the more enforced regulation is apparent. In and of itself, regulation isn't automatically a bad thing-after all,it's why we elect people to govern. Lay down some parameters,we all know where we stand. Fairy Nuff. But when those we allow to govern choose to set out along the road to tyranny,no matter how well-intentioned they start out,it's time to re-think the system. After all,why should a system of government several hundred years old still be relevent today? Even Microsoft realises W95 isn't up to it,a mere 19 years later.
I dunno, mate. But there are VERY few instances of absolute rule being popular,or of dictators/tyrants being benevolent. So maybe it's time for a form of anarchy. If EVERYTHING was legal, then self-rule would HAVE to be installed. .....but only until a gang took charge and started 'charging' weaker people to rule them... It's human nature,Asmo-the weak resent the strong, gang together for strength, then the heady feeling of 'power' becomes an aphrodisiac to them. At which point retaining 'power' is more important to them than governing with sense and equilibrium. You MUST have noticed how politicians always refer to the in-situ party as being 'in power',rather than 'in government'.....
I guess it really depends on the criteria by which you judge advancement. In America, there is far less art and music being taught in schools so kids are exposed to much less diversity in those fields which IMO is going to adversely effect the kind of vision and creativity the next generation will draw upon to run things. Obesity is rampant, we are looking at the first generation that is not expected to exceed their parents life-span... environmental pollution largely not being addressed, extreme polarization of political ideologies, the public's collective attention span severely foreshortened by the constant blast of electronically delivered info-tainment...
This too^^^What we need is a collective paradigm shift in social values, and considering the exclusionary religious values that are dividing most of the world, I don't see that happening any time soon.
Someone needs to start a news agency more conducive to internet arguing. Where you can pay a small fee to find out more details about a story to win the internet. I think this could make good money.
