I don't see how it would. In the unlikely event that would tho, I don't know. I don't have all the answers. But I know letting people die isn't one of them
Oh I don't know if I want to touch this one... A god, the gods, mother nature, whatever you believe in. That's kind of irrelevant tho
Also I said it's fine to override natural selection, but not if we keep being primal animals in other areas such as reproducing.
Being locked down together as a society and being relocated based on your demographic are 2 entirely different things
Thats true... If we're gonna put on our big boy pants and say we have graduated to something higher, we gotta actually act the part.
Death is part of life. I don't see you calling for cars to be banned because so many people get killed by them. Alcohol to be banned because so many lives ruined. VG has done a better job than I could do of describing how lockdown could cause more issues than virus. Maybe he is wrong, but it convinced me. Can't help I see the logic. Maybe I'm wrong. Hope so!
How do you know its uniquely human? Why would Mother Nature make us want to keep every human alive? I believe that death is not the worst thing. Fae put it beautifully. We were somewhere else before, and we will go back there. I don't use this in debate for obvious reasons.
I will argue with people I like, by the way, and like them just as much later. You seem like you can do that too, and I like it about you.
Ah well that's just how Mc Gul worded it. I was imagining they just stay indoors. Imagine all the lovely things that would happen, based on what we've seen. Groups of young healthy people would gather outside the homes of old people and sing for them. Cheer and clap for them. And all that stuff.
Death is part of life. So is survival. Eating and sex are part of life too, but I don't see anyone advocating that we all resort to becoming gluttonous fornicatiors all the time (but cmon who would argue with that lifestyle if we could pull it off ?) And I appreciate you but that analogy doesn't work. If millions of people were being killed against their will all over the world in a 2 month pandemic that saw cars and alcohol raging out of control and the only way to stay safe was to remain locked indoors, you might have something
If Tyrsonwood is as old as the likes of Asmodean suggests, (I hear he was present for the original floor plans of the Great Pyramid of Giza) it would not surprise me if he has developed antibodies where the novel Coronavirus gets infected when not obeying social distancing with him.
Everyone to come to my side and say "wow she articulates her point so well! Its impossible to disagree." and just worship at my feet. No, disagree back. Its healthy debate. I just don't want you to think I was singling you out or picking on you
We don't know that millions will die if left unchecked. If economies collapse and world food production gets fucked up and there are genuine shortages in the UK, leading to riots and starvation.. That's pretty grim. I do think alcohol use has raged out of control. People get killed by drunk drivers. If we save just ONE LIFE by banning cars and alcohol, it will be worth it.
This just isn't realistic for a lot of older people though. Many live in an extended family set up. Which even now, there's a risk they could still catch it from a family member in that case, but less of a chance when people are taking ample precautions versus most everyone just going about their business and spreading the virus without knowing it.
Well maybe its not but that doesn't change the fact that we have a conscience and I in good conscience can't accept the notion that older people, whether we're talking about their freedom or their lives, are somehow expendable. That's my grandparents we're talking about
I don't think this philosophical debate about overpopulation etc. is worthwile to have in a coronavirus/lockdown discussion. It's quite understandable people will take those who argue for things like natural selection in them the wrong way. How else are we supposed to take that sideroad in regards to the current crisis? If not as a legit consideration to be applied now. So its good we communicate and share conflicting thoughts on that to clear such things up They would not ONLY be relocated to save 'the economy'. I would likely say no if that was the case
And also, on this It isn't *just* about saving lives either. It is about flattening the spike in cases so hospital systems don't get overwhelmed and nurses and doctors can have some degree of protection as well Our hospital systems are already adjusted to the number of car accident or drug/alcohol cases so I don't think the comparison is apt
