It would also prevent the military from being such an echo chamber. Would bring in new voices and perspectives. Not that I support mandatory services, but it certainly has its advantages.
The "foot thing" is something "some other guy" said.... I grew up dreading having to go to VietNam as soon as I got out of high school, had my draft card and everything. Right before I graduated the draft ended... There was such a collective sigh of relief from all the guys my age it generated a hurricane. I doubt anyone actually signed up for that shyt in that time period. Many of us knew guys that were a few years older, that came back in a bodybag... or in pieces.
I completely understand, and certainly don't blame anyone for feeling that way, especially during Vietnam. My intention isn't to send people off to war.
i don't know about that one, a lot of the veterans i've met are kind of assholes to everyone else. i'm sure there would be benefits to the idea, but overall i really don't support it.
Personally, I think it would be overreach of the federal government. I don't even support conscription. It flies in the face of the very ideals of freedom and liberty that the military protects. I understand the argument for it--and its a valid one--but at the end of the day, I see it as a personal freedom issue. I just don't see how the freeist nation on Earth can maintain it's integrity once we force people to serve in the military.
Yeah, unfortunately, there are those vets that are complete shitheads, and that usually comes from the influence of bad leadership, and sometimes, they are just frickin arrogant assholes on their own. The advantage is, at least citizens will be exposed to an environment that teaches it, demands it, and expects it.
Exactly This truth pisses me off to no end. Yet the extreme stratification of society is a whole 'nother topic to itself. As to your later point.......I often wish I had red hair
I say this! I didn't even realise I did it until people pointed it out that it should be "another whole" or "a whole other"
