STAR TREK is excellent - sexy girls, uniforms - the feeling that space literally holds infinite possibilities and to a kid quite scarey. Those painted landscapes in the 60's originals were the buisness and they could be quite surreal too at times on the other hand - and I HATE linking to things outside this universe but.... Star Wars Animation
Star Trek, imho, for the simple fact that it is a vision of the human race at its best, in a future we should all hope for...it shows a vision of a bright future, but Star Wars was 'a long, long time ago, in a galaxy far, far away'...besides, don't tell me I've been designing starships and reading up on warp drives (Alcubierre's theory is pretty cool, huh?) all these years for nothing? C'mon! 'Space...the final frontier...these are the voyages of the starship 'Enterprise'...' Every time I hear those words, I still get excited.
I don't want it anymore but I used to love Star Trek when I was a kid haha. Star Wars is kind of boring.
Star Wars. Although, I really find them to be apples and oranges in many ways. Science fiction vs. Science fantasy. I'm a big fan of both but absolutely nothing tops Jedi and there ain't no phaser or batleth that comes close to how incredibly awsome a lightsaber is.
I am a total Trekkie. Am currently knitting a diaper bag for myself featuring the original Enterprise on the front, and a strap that reads "Star Trek" 3 times.... what can I say, I am a major geek!
Why does this always come up? How the hell are you gonna compare a TV series and a movie? Its apples and oranges, people... cmon
Well I'm a long-time Star Wars fan, but have dabbled in Star Trek for the last few weeks because my new roommate is always watching it. (My favorite thing about the show is Captain Piccard-I probably wouldn't watch it if he weren't in it) I still like Star Wars way more though. ~ I dig the ties to Taoism and it I just find it all around more entertaining than Star Trek.
Here are my rankings best to worst of the films of BOTH series: 1. Star Wars: The Empire Strikes Back ( Right up there with the best of all time) 2. Star Trek: The Wrath of Kahn (Same as above. All hail Ricardo!) 3. Star Trek: The Voyage Home (Hil-ar-i-ous, and clever) 4. Star Wars: Revenge of the Sith (POWERFUL, no matter what anyone says) 5. Star Wars: A New Hope (The boost all of sci-fi needed) 6. Star Trek: The Undiscovered Country (brilliant political satire in space) 7. Star Trek: First Contact (crazy fun, awesome action, great acting from Stuart and Dorn) 8. Star Wars: The Return of the Jedi (The last fight between Luke and Vader is what movies are all about) 9. Star Trek: The Search for Spock (a little silly, but awesome action) 10. Star Trek: The Final Frontier (what it lacks in story it makes up for with beautiful music, and wonderful interplay between Kirk, Spock, and McCoy.) 11. Star Trek: Insurrection (silly fun, with a good message) 12. Star Wars: Attack of the Clones (Nice music, good action, but not the best.) 13. Star Wars: The Phantom Menace (Well, I like the race. Alot.) 14. Star Trek: Generations (HOW COULD THEY DO THIS TO KIRK?) 15. Star Trek: The Motion Picture (The Motionless Picture) 16. Star Trek: Nemesis (most-disappointing-sci-fi-film-ever)
Star Wars. Absolutely no question about it. Why did SWG have to completely fail? *cries* Damn you Sony. I hope your tauntaun freezes before you reach the first marker.
STAR WARS KICKS STAR TREK'S ASS!!! I HATE STAR TREK! I WATCHED THE NEWEST STAR TREK MOVIE LAST YEAR & IT WAS AS BORING AS FUCK! AND STAR WARS IS NOT A COPY OF DUNE! WHOEVER THINKS THIS IS A FUCKING MORON! DUNE IS A CHEAP COPY OF STAR WARS! ARRAKKIS (OR WHATEVER IT'S CALLED) IS TATOOINE WITH SAND WORMS! STAR WARS WAS MADE FIRST! YODA IS THE BOMB!
Dune was a book written 20 years before star wars. sorry. Oh, and that south park episode in your sig, that was on tv tonight, was just watching it.
I was raised on Star Trek. Star Wars owed a lot to it as laying so much of the groundwork. Roddenberry really created the first sci-fi phenom... how many shows are ever brought back through popular demand after cancellation? But I feel that Star Trek has suffered its ups and downs. Any time you add so many cooks and the original creator is no longer around to guide things, it's going to suffer. As for Star Wars, I admit I was completely rocked when it first showed in the theatre. It was simply the finest sci-fi adventure ever made up to that time, and it still stacks up well despite its age. I'm sorry that it felt as if Lucas lost his story writing edge when doing the prequels. He can be a fine story teller, but he simply did too much writing to create more opportunity for special effects in the second set. But what do I know? I think Babylon V and The Fifth Element deserve as much respect.
