I loved Jean-Luc...something about that accent...I don't know...he just did it for me. " Make it so". I also really do like William Shatner in all of his TV endeavors since Trek - I liked him in both "Boston Legal" and "Shit my Dad Says" (I think is the name)... But for Favorite Captain I like Picard, then Janeway - whom I had forgotten really - until reading this thread.

Wow, not a single vote for Archer. Went with Picard all the way. Kirk is second, though I like them all.
Archer was a good guy. He could be very uptight at times though, it made him funny. I think of him as the Ward Cleaver of Starfleet captains.
I think Janeway was a great Captain because she was thrust into a situation that there was no 'training' for, and because of her feeling like it was all down to her fault and responsibility, she sometimes felt she had to betray some of her morals and principles on behalf of her crew. I thought it was a very interesting subtext for the character. Also as a woman character I think she was very well written - a strong female lead that retained her feminity and didn't fall into just being the rather two-dimensional 'tough lady'. She was fair, intelligent, and strong. Ha. I don't know about the Ward Cleaver comparison, but I thought he was cool because he was really out there all alone with his ship and crew. No Federation, generally not any nearby starbases or friendly territory he could fall back on. I think he had to be a bit of a hard nose to get through it, but at the same time he reflected humanities naievte during its first steps into deep space.
Capt Archer....i just liked watching him act like he didnt have a clue on what it meant to be a captain but hey to be fair the UFP was in its infancy and didnt really set down a lot of rules yet.
