This game has been in production forever, because the people who started the project had no clue it would be so outrageously popular an idea and so well funded by crowd sourcing. They originally had somewhat more modest ambitions, but the demos they show here illustrate how quickly they changed their minds and decided to shoot for the moon on this project. Using the Vulcan API, more open source projects can often take longer and even be years behind commercial enterprises, but they can also catch up with a vengeance. In particular, this game could easily become the linux game from hell that leverages Vulcan and the new linux 3D fonts to produce a fantastic virtual reality experience comparable to any on the market. There are other games like this one in development, with enormous casts and budgets, but this one has the advantage of relying on open source programming more and encouraging a huge community of dedicated linux programmers to get involved and put all their eggs in one giant basket that will define linux video gaming forever. These include not only the usual suspects familiar with programming video games, but experts in AI research and others who would no doubt love to play with the game and see how to use its ideas for other purposes. For example, if they need a specific virtual reality environment they can adopt ideas from this video game that they know work well in linux and adopt the same drivers used for this game.
