Stephen King was so pleased by Director Rob Reiner that he would only allow Rob to direct his next book-to-screen adaptation Misery
This really is a great movie and I agree with the original poster of this when they said it shows a simpler time that we’ll never see again... wish my kid could grow up in a more outdoorsy, less techy era but I guess I’ll have SOME control over that... I’ll have to read the book by Stephen King
Stephen King has battled drug addiction for most of his adult life and yet has created a body of work in horror fiction that’s unrivaled. How does he do it?
That and his ability to create living, breathing, lifelike characters... Even the ones he kills off five pages after their introduction he gives quite a bit of depth to.
Another strength of his. He is by far my favorite "junk food" writer. While I appreciate classical and contemporary literature, I also can't turn down a King novel.
Junk Food writer...I like that term. I'm gonna use that if that's alright. That's how I feel about Peter Benchley.
i like the part where teddy is always playing army, because, i used to be like that. no, i still am like that. hehe.
it's amazing how shows like that and simpsons can make a whole movie into a 5-10min cartoon and yet they perfect it in only that time frame.
In his novel Misery his number 1 fan (Annie Wilkes) is a metaphor for drugs. First she’s kind and gentle and then she becomes his worst nightmare of which he can’t escape. When he kills her he breaks the habit, but in the last frame of the movie he sees a vision of her which means he could relapse at any time.
I watched Stand By Me based on the strength of the recommendations here. I thought is was ok, but not awesome. I think a better movie could have been made. Imho, you shouldn't just take a short story and try to turn into a feature length film. I would have liked it if they had actually showed some later-life scenes, instead of just saying Chris got stabbed in the throat and died. In any case, it gets points for not being just another standard hollywood formula movie. It's weird seeing river phoenix in this I agree thought that the Stand By Me song is awesome
