Bullshit and false logic. I don't care if they put their life on the line, I never asked them to. Iraq or Vietnam was not a threat to me. I didn't need these soldiers to risk their lives. Your argument is as stupid as saying that the lumberjacks who cut down the rainforests should be respected and honoured because they go into that dangerous jungle with the risk of diseases and falling trees just so I won't have to. And what if somebody kills a cat ... just for you? Will you say thank you?
we must honor thy rich white men who rape women in africa... for they journey into the lands with the chances of getting AIDS... such brave men, doing this so we don't have to. What is the difference to reality, all colors of men and women going into Iraq to kill "insurgents"(anyone who picks up a gun and fights the "new" people that seem to be patrolling around with guns, shooting at their friends)... so we dont have to... well thank you, thank you so damn much... now i dont have to get off my ass and do it myself... i can sit here and invest in lockheed martin and watch it rise rise rise.. money. money. money. God bless america. Difference to nam? People were drafted during nam, some thought they hadn't a choice... which is sad...
Mui.. I'm confused.. I like you mucho, apart from this thread.. so I'm guessing we're more or less on the same page here as well but that we just don't really understand eachother. Let me explain myself systematically 1) war sucks 2) when it comes to war, there are different parties to blame.. being a) the people who are actually fighting (soldiers, rebels etc), b) the people who are organizing the whole thing (governments), c) the people that made it possible for the people mentionned under 'b' to have that kind of power (the voters) d) the people who are letting it happen and not doing anything to try and stop it 3) in case of severe problems in a country, it might be ok for another country to intervene in order to save lives and reinstall peace in that country. However.. in my opinion, the country that does the invading should abandon all present and future economic ties with the country that it's invading. That's the core.. I guess.. back to you
None of that I disagree with... but there is so much more to number 3 i think. like clauses that justify invasion. Which you probably agree with me as well.. What is it that you disagree with me in this thread? Probably my lack of compassion for the military. I just cant stomache why someone would actually obey orders... "there is no glory in complying with demands" killing another person wont do any good for the world... It doesnt seem logical why I should treat these people with such high asteem for making the horrible decision to join the military. What are you really defending? And I do take into consideration that people in nam were drafted, and am compassionate towards those who were drafted. As you all already know, i've never felt the need to protect myself from communism, or muslim terrorists... the terrorists arent aimin at my house, they're protecting their homeland and aiming at government institutions.
Well said. This is exactly the point I've been trying to get across. I am a veteran. I never expected respect from anyone when I was in the army. I could have given two shits whether anyone respected me or not. I joined for my own personal reasons. The same as anyone else that is currently enlisted. That I can guarantee you. Everyone is brainwashed by all this patriotic bullshit. I think that it is impossible to even get through to them. Should I respect anyone who does something so that I don't have to? No. Why not? Because I can't begin to respect someone I don't know. I don't know these people on an individual basis. I don't know there moral beliefs. I don't know what type of person they are. Knowing only one aspect of that person doesn't give me enough information to come to an informed decision about whether or not I should respect them. Perhaps if I did I might respect them, but I can't respect every single man and woman that is currently serving in the armed forces or that has ever fought in combat. Like I said I was in the army. Some of those same people that I served with are still enlisted. Some of those people were the shittiest people I've ever met in my entire life. Some of those people have no right carrying a weapon. Some of those people are straight out of high school and still don't have a clue. Some of...get the point yet? To DEMAND me to respect people I don't know is ridiculous in more ways than one. Just because they have a dangerous occupation doesn't make me respect them either. I don't respect all race car drivers. I don't respect all firemen. I don't respect all bodyguards. I don't respect the secret service. Perhaps I should respect the secret service men just because they are willing to take a bullet for the president so I don't have to? Can any of you see how illogical this is yet, or are we still stuck in the same "You should respect those who fought for you" mode?
I think it's stupid to go to jail for something you don't believe in. To me it would be the same as going to jail for not believing in Jesus Christ....
In a perfect world there would be no wars, hate, disease or prejudist. Ahh but we don't live in a perfect world. We live on earth. The perfect world is from which we came. We chose to come here and experience the human condition. We came in agreement to help one another bring about change for the betterment of the ALL. As crusaders we come forth to bring light and healing energy. In each generation we are becoming more cilvilized and more educated. Things do not change over night, we evolve we grow. We become wise in the choices we make, being positive or negative we learn from it. We must reconnect with our Divine Rememberence and bring forth an effort to fullfil our obligations that we agreed upon on the otherside. This is the only way we as a race will servive. We are all one race, the human race. We chose to be here knowing it is not a perfect world.
... it's really not that hard.. either you're lying about your age or you're just plain.. well.. *puts on michael jackson voice* ignorant
i never said my age.Ignorant of what? Please explain.Michael Jackson is my god,if your gonna imitate him at least do it right. He sounds just like my other god,Micky Mouse.
There were alot of differences to what the american people and the military was used to or had believed up to that point. Sorry you don't seem to understand that and theres plenty written already on the subjects, but you seem narrow in your view to realize it or understand that I guess. I just wish there was more understanding on what transpired, not that you agree with it, but many opinions I keep reading don't seem to be formed with all the facts at hand. One thing to come to that opinion fully informed or with "Cliff Note" mentality.
you gonna let some bald fellow do your talking for you.Elaborate.Sure you're not from the neverlands.
I'm letting him do the talking because my time's too precious for me to be talking to you in person (I'm making an exception here). Now let's get back ontopic shall we?
no.. I think you're mainly unintelligent if you still haven't figured out that I'm not prowar. Seriously.. stop wasting my time. Mui.. we're basically on the same page.. I don't feel 'compassion' for soldiers anymore than I do for other people.. I don't respect them any more or less than other people either. I do respect people who work for things like the Red Cross in war areas immensly.. however.. I don't judge all soldiers either.. or not more than I'd judge other people..
How about Squeaky Fraum(sp.),part of the Manson family. She was just following orders.Wouldn't want to judge her.
I said that I don't judge soldiers anymore than other people.. so bringing up certain individuals doesn't really matter.. or.. what's your point here?
