    Sarcasm is lost over the internet, i can't tell if that is or isnt, but ill assume it is. Its always easy to critisize something you or anyone you know hasn't experiened for themselves. So if you did have relatives who served in Vietnam, even if they were drafted, you would spit on them too?

    yes...

    unfortunatly our words are lost here,there will never be peace in our lifetime cause idiots keep fighting wars for it.The only way to peace is through peace,not revenge or retaliation as some offenders call it.

    Gate;
    Could we agree on this-it is highly unlikely that a merry band of longhairs could get into an airport and freely spit on returning Vietnam vets back in the sixties like it was a production line? The Peace Movement organizers knew nothing about the spitters-and would not have approved- unto this day, and you must believe first hand accounts. What is so wild about this theory; there was a government sanctioned black operation back in the sixties to where agents in longhaired wigs hocked on returning vets at a vulnerable moment. It makes perfect political sense given the time and place. Most Urban Myths have some basis in reality and I believe that the "spitten on Vietnam Vet" story was a black op.
    In a related story; I looked up my good friend the Shark a few weeks back. He is in bad health, and I do hope he is alive come Spring when we make our journeys. Shark told me some war stories about his time in the LRRPs and did you know that the Australians were the best jungle fighters in the Allied forces? On the Aisian side there were the Nungs and Montagnards. Shark has moved back to his hometown and I met a few of his High School friends that were building his new garage. Decent country folk all....

    Wow bro, you sound so much like my stepdad it scares me. He was a Marine who thought if you didn't fight in the Pacific you should keep your mouth shut. I wish I'd known more about PTSD back then We might have been able to speak to each other. A whole lot of WWII guys had it you know.

    Could you answer a few questions for me?

    Who were these guys and was the famous "hippy chick" with the baby in her arms with them? Were they freaks or clean cut? Did security do anything? Did you tell anyone in the airport so the next GI coming through the gate wouldn't be attacked?

    I ask these questions because you are one of the 100's if not 1000's of guys who claim to have been attacked by these 3. You were 54 in 04 so we're the same age. I spent my 20th in the Parrots Beak so unless you served at a much younger age we were there at the same time.

    By the time we returned home the "spitting campaign" had supposedly been going on for years. Are you telling me that after the first few attacks airport security or the USO didn't go out of their way to make sure GI's were safe?

    You see there's a problem. People have searched records for years and there is NOT ONE DOCUMENTED piece of evidence that shows an arrest, a ambulance being called or even a complaint in any airport in the country.

    When I got home I had a year to serve (yep, I was a RA 11B) and got staitioned at Ft Ord. I spent that year hitching back and forth to Santa Cruz, Big Sur, the Haight and Berzerkly every weekend. Me and every GI on that base knew we wouldn't stand outside the gate for more than 10 minutes. I got picked up by peacefreaks, Buddists, vets, working stiffs etc. Not one time did I catch any shyte from anyone.

    I've spent many an hour in Vets Centers bro. I've seen more than a few vets change their stories. And heard many more stories about Vets being ridiculed at VFW Hall because "you didn't fight in a real war" and "you lost".

    I'd go on about GI Coffee Houses outside a lot of bases across the country but I'd recommend a new film called Sir, No Sir that was released a few months ago. It shows how far GI resistance went and how it would have collapsed without the support of the "movement'.

    My belief is that the spitting campaign myth was started to rewrite history. Vets were very much a part of the anti war movement and that was a no no. The spitting went on for years but we didn't start hearing about it til the late 70's? Right. Please view it with the same eye you view the Sadaam connection and the disappearing WMD's.

    This is my first post on this site and I love this place. I am a little confused about some of the down this thread tho. Their condemnation of people who might have made a mistake or don't believe 100% in "their" peaceplan don't seem very peaceful to me.

    Peace
    Roy

    Gate;
    I do not know how it was where you were but up here in the Great White North I could hardly walk my shaggy ass out in public without getting some murderous looks. My friend "Ross" told his kids about how "they wanted to kill us" back in the day. Absolutely correct Ross! Given the political insanity of the time I cannot imagine how bands of longhairs could even get into an airport, much less do some production line hocking on returning vets. If such a thing really did happen-and it seems fairly certain that it did-the spitters would have had to have had a security cordon around them to avoid being instantly stomped into the ground. A security cordon costs a lot of money and right away we are talking conspiracy here. Who? Well the US army was playing some mind games with the American public back then, but there are any number of possible candidates. Is there anybody out there with some time and resources to investigate this urban myth? I know a vet who was actually hocked on and I think I will start there.

    I understand you feel that GI's and vets are the scum of the earth and the root of most of her problems. I happen to disagree.
