sorry to say but THIS war, iraq and afghanistan, isn't any different from vietnam. all three are based on lies and supported by keeping the citizens of the US frightened. vietnam was all about keeping the threat of communism at bay and is related to macarthyism and the hunt to root out communism in the US and the world. now it's all about stamping out the terrorist threat.
Nazi leader Hermann Goering, interviewed by Gustave Gilbert during the Easter recess of the Nuremberg trials, 1946 April 18, quoted in Gilbert's book "Nuremberg Diary." Goering: Why, of course, the people don't want war. Why would some poor slob on a farm want to risk his life in a war when the best that he can get out of it is to come back to his farm in one piece. Naturally, the common people don't want war; neither in Russia, nor in England, nor in America, nor for that matter in Germany. That is understood. But, after all, it is the leaders of the country who determine the policy and it is always a simple matter to drag the people along, whether it is a democracy, or a fascist dictatorship, or a parliament, or a communist dictatorship. Gilbert: There is one difference. In a democracy the people have some say in the matter through their elected representatives, and in the United States only Congress can declare wars. Goering: Voice or no voice, the people can always be brought to the bidding of the leaders. That is easy. All you have to do is tell them they are being attacked, and denounce the pacifists for lack of patriotism and exposing the country to danger. It works the same in any country.
Goering was an extremely intelligent man; a World War I flying hero; a connessuier of art, literature and music; unfortunately, he was a world-class cynic with no morals. Much like the pro-death faction in America. (And, I don't mean the pro-capital punishment crowd, of which I'm not.)
The point of the Goering post was to express my belief that the attitude of the people who hold power has not changed a lot since WWII. I think powerful groups of people have gotten us into Iraq for their on ends and that the people and the troops are all victims of the type of manipulation that Goering expressed.
Yes. this frightening. Let's hope in the 2008 elections, although I think, that the difference between your Reps and Dems is as similar great, as the difference between our Conservatives and so called Socialdemocrats here. There are a lot of evidences, that the arrogant attitude, shown by a lot of top-nazis, could even had been drug-induced.
Seeing as spitting on a soldier isn't going to stop an already anti-war civilian, who was being dragged into something they didn't believe in, in the first place, why make there day worse by demeaning them? Why not instead congradulate the men, that with equally (or equally different) views, that were willing to put their life on the line for you, whether or not you understand or agree with the cause? such courageousness should be celebrated, not spit on.
Flying Spaghetti Monster - an alternative theory of creation put forth as a joke by a physics professor on the net - originally appeared in his letter to the Kansas School Board regarding the intelligent design debate. If you want more information, see my first two journal postings - sort of my way of saying May the _________ (fill in your own blank) be with you.
that's a lot of reading the same post over and over. i coulda filled a page with quotes from 20-and-under-year-olds who think the vietnam veteran spent his time in-country looking to harm innocents, and therefore deserves whatever shabby treatment he got. you wanna talk about harming the innocent? ok, then, let's do: take a boy (not unlike the young folks in this thread who seem to know how they'd handle being sent to war) , someone who's only concern was snaggin that mechanics' job, or finally getting to 3rd base with his gal, a boy who didn't know squat about the world, but was looking forward to learning all about it. yank him outta that exciting new adventure, give him a gun, push him off a helicopter into a jungle full of people thirsting for his blood, and tell him it's for the good of his country. if he's alive for the dustoff, keep sending him back in there...until he either earns a body-bag or the points he needs to get the fuk outta there. then, when he finally gets home, the home he truly believed he'd been defending with his life, call him a killer because he had the audacity to live!! war is hell, nobody should have to experience it. to survive war, right or wrong, and come home to be spit on (even if only figuratively) by your classmates, teammates, (ex)wife, friends, neighbors, peers, hell, the very country that sent you in there, is an infinitely worse hell. you can say "peace this" and "peace that" & it's all sooo grooovy, maaan. but ask a vietnam vet sometime what "peace out" means to him. don't preach to a 'nam-vet about harming the innocent, 'cuz you don't know anything about it. i sincerely hope you never do. damn, this country still spits on the vietnam veteran, even tho it'd like to convince itself it doesn't. it's only gonna stop when the rest of 'em are dead. i'm not a vietnam veteran, but i served during the immediate (1975) aftermath. i'm a cold-war vet, i never "fired a shot" but i woulda, ubetcha! the russians were looking for an edge, if they'd found it...apocolypse for sure. edit: a teacher-friend of mine once concluded a similar message with... if you're reading this, thank a teacher. if you're reading this in english, thank a soldier. btw-does any of this sound familiar? wave your flags & sport your yellow ribbons, but howya gonna treat him/her when he/she gets home?
harrack tuey. The only thing worse than a Nam vet is someone who joined after seeing the truth.Where were you Fucking Granada where we saved the free world for contras and crack.
figures you'd be the first to weigh in...nothin can be said to dampen my pride, so flame on...you can talk about peace, i was keepin the peace. happens i was toe-to-toe with russian nuclear subs lookin to fry your sorry ingrateful butt. you're welcome.
hey man, i got to read it....hope you felt the good when i did an american soldier kills to prevent death. every time an american soldier takes aim, he's aiming at someone who wants to kill 10, or 100, a 1000 or 10,000. more? and, no, we can't just lay all the guns down, 'cuz the bad guys'll cheat. sorry about that, but it's our regrettable reality. an american soldier doesn't like killing, he likes saving lives. he actually knows he protects peeps who hate him, but he does it anyway. strong love, wouldn't you say? i didn't serve to further any politcal agenda, i served with a sense of patriotism to the principles we live by. i know that what i did was to protect, not destroy or dominate. i'm proud i can claim to have done my part to make sure you guys have a messageboard like this. you see, "freedom of speech" was one of those principles i was watching out for.
"A sense of patriotism to the principals we live by"?Sounds just like a political agenda to me. Fighting the Ruskies are we?Isn't that why we trained the Taliban?
now, i just wanna jump in here...me in granada? we did "fight" ruskies in '75. it's called a history book. read it, then come back and try again to shake my pride.
Ok tough guy, what would you do if some viet kong soldier jumped over a hill and started ripping of rounds full auto form a freaking AK-47? Would you asume the lotus posstion and be at one with nature!? No, you would blow him away, thats what!
