Kant's categorical imperative is one of the boldest assertions in philosophy Imo. A deontological theory of ethics appears quite ambitious coming from a perspective of post-modernism, fake news, etc. That quote you mention seems like one of his more poetic notions as to how he arrived at such ideas.

so true, and if there were only one thing i could make go away and never have existed, this is it. its even pretty much a central theme of most things i would. not that i've never been guilty of spouting ignorance myself, but this is like a cancer, that seems to have grown even larger then the patient. the human ego is a very stupid thing. this is why it is easier for me to find interest in things, that have absolutely nothing to do with it.
It seems as a society we tend to celebrate the ends of the spectrum, that which appeals to the lowest common denominator and heights of excellence beyond most people's comprehension.
