The true Mahayana; everyone's welcome within the circle; no one excluded, no one left out, and no one left behind.

Obviously written by a religious person using atheism to justify a belief in a god.

I disagree. I think he was ("obviously") promoting Humanistic values of being "moral, good, kind, and compassionate", completely independent of any perceived need to curry favor with or appease God.
He rather clearly states that an Atheist who helps someone is more righteous than a religious person who uses 'thoughts & prayers' as a sanctimonious excuse to actually do nothing.

if a god wants to exist, it (or they) doesn't need us, telling each other what to pretend, in order to do so.

what is to prevent a billion gods, no two alike and none resembling any known name of belief?
the unknown being unknown does not prevent this, nor the universal wonder of the strangeness we can observe and enjoy by ourselves.

we don't do each other any favors by telling each other deny a universe wider then we can imagine, instead of narrower.

"It does me no injury for my neighbor to say there is one hundred gods or no god. It neither picks my pocket nor breaks my leg."
