Yes, and thanks for asking. I still had to GROW the hair!!! I suffered about as much scorn going through the growth process alone with all the funky stages. In fact, as stated, I didn't know how to let dreads form on their own. I was using shampoo and conditioner, and tried an inexpensive wax/band kit from DHHQ. Immediately I knew it was a wrong move. So I asked around. A guy I know in town who' had his for over 9 years told me that he would go to this salon. So I went. They told me to come back in some time. Later when I went back, the woman I had seen said "You are ready." but she wasn't looking at my hair, she was looking into my eyes. I didn't find the forums until the next day when I went looking for moral support. ~ Do you want me to tell you about my prayerlife? How about the time I've spent in contemplation of the Nazirite vow? What would those things prove? Do you want me to tell you that I felt like God lead me to that salon? Would you believe me if I did tell you that? What will satisfy you? God's answer? Would you know how to hear it if He told you Himself anyway? Do you think that God cannot use backcombed and permed dreadlocks for His own purposes? Who knows? Maybe I am full of it? Does that make my journey any less spiritual?
aww man...Im not saying your not a spiritual person. Im certain that you are and more power to ya. Like I said...I dont care how people start their locks...whatever works for you. I just have met many people who go to the salon to get instant manufactured dreads because to them its a hair style...not a life style. In terms of those kinds of people...yes salon dreads take the spirtual aspect out of dreading and they are completely missing the point. You seem very proud of your faith and you seem to have your heart in a good place....so rock on.
S'all good! Even if someone wanted dreads for a [just a] hairstyle, you have to realize that what is sacred to one is worthless to another. Try not to judge, and love your neighbor, nay, even your enemy? That's what I am working on. :cheers2:
i don't think i know anyone who hates people with salon locks. that guy that was posting here and who was acting pretty hard on everyone who didn't do there's naturally said he didn't dislike them either, just didn't like that fact that people got their hair done in an hour and tried to say it was like his which took like 9 years? i think the main problem, if you could call it a problem, is confusing the passage of time with "spirituality" like baguazhang said what is sacred to one is worthless to another. some people may feel they need the time to make powerful connections, others may not. it should be a unique journey to everyone, long or short. who says the journey even ends? just living with a mature head still has its unique lessons. even people who start out with the desire of simply an image may end up with a certain spiritualism attached to their head.
why don't people keep using the rubbing method?is it damaging or does it deliver such hideous results?
