I was hit a lot, but not specifically on the butt. i dont think its an effective way to rear children at all. its basically about the parent getting out their own frustration. i honestly still hold a grudge against my father for his outbursts when i was younger. its monstrous behavior on the parent's part.

I'd lightly spank my kids if they did something dangerous, and I had told them it was dangerous. Just as a gentle reminder. Fingers crossed they would associate the two and not do it as often.

It always amazes me how people who have never had kids think their opinions on how to raise children carry any weight.

 

I was spanked as a small child. It was just a light slap to get my attention and then my parents would explain why I got a spanking and that if I did it again I would get another spanking.
