Anyone into spaceweather? Just figured I would start one if there wasn't already.

No, I'm into the dead not knowing how to talk to each other. though we can imagine they could if they would; as they are situated in cemeteries nowadays. As long as there is no serious truth for climate change to the point of the end of the very notion of Climate.:biker:

There's a cool app I use on iPhone called space WX Weather. It had daily vids and pics of the sun bursts etc. handy for me cause I live in highlands and don't like the sun so gives me opportunity to get my UV protection stuff on.

I've been into it quite a bit lately. I just find it all really interesting. Apparently a big enough solar flare could seriously damage our power grid. There is a 10% chance that a seriously bad one could occur in our lifetime.

I haven't seen many doomsday predictions with a factually calculated odds of effect like that. I'd say if any doomsday junkie was to keep an eye on anything it would be the sun really. The science of it is really interesting too. The magnetics and the way our planet can protect us from some really nasty stuff.

There's soo many websites to help keep us well informed too. It's like a weird roulette.

I just don't believe to this day since the new millennium that one can't find an authority to explain that the sun is in the sky for the time change to standard time.

I've been watching this channel on youtube that updates with a new video everyday on interesting scientific events, regular weather, and space weather. This one's for today.

    Really cool stuff.

Yup, cool, I think so, but what's the idea of ordinary people going into their own imagination shells. And the transition of the troposphere to the stratosphere needs sustained development to explain that someway of fact: the north pole is not in the stratosphere during the summer months. Or is it certainly not a problem and it id.:biker:

    I use it sometimes.
Usually after coming home from geocaching and my GSP was sketchy, just to see if it was a solar thing.

Mhm. It all depends how far north or south you are, flares can be big at times and effect things in ways we as the majority don't have too much experience with.

They say when the 'kill shot' comes along we will be able to see auroras in the skies as far south as South America and in broad daylight. It won't effect many of us physically but when we go back inside to turn on the tv...there will be quite a surprise waiting.

A retarded monkey making dookies on a keyboard would make more sense.

    Ah I see xD

BTW to anyone that views this thread from now even into a year from now or so...(hoping it gets that far) You might be less informed on how we watch the sun exactly.

It's done via many different readings or comparisons of the levels of radiation, magnetism, heat, density, velocity, etc. The same guy that does the daily updates also has a video entitled "How to watch the Sun". It's about 30 minutes long and runs through just about everything you need to know to start watching the sun and to stay informed on the subject.

The first three minutes or so can be skipped. Just the intro.

Make sure that you all are stocked up on emergency supplies as you can be. Keep flashlights handy and be as conservative with your food as you can. If this thing decides to high five us when it faces earth, our palm might be sore a while. Make a plan if you don't already have one.

In all seriousness though, this spot just popped an X3 which is moderate to large. To put it into perspective, an x10 would be bad enough to dramatically effect the power grid, phone reception, and overal utilities. This spot looks very healthy and it's fitting to be earth facing VERY soon.

Be safe overal. Remember, if the car doesn't work and if no one else around you's car doesn't work either...start walking. Put yourself ahead and don't get caught up in bureaucratic citizen round ups and keep your your family close. If at home, conserve everything and risk nothing.

Professor Sir John Beddington gave a lecture in which he said the UK believes solar weather to be the most or second biggest threat

I believe he might be right.

Something that powerful. Always on, always near enough. We take it for granted. Which might come back to bite us. Thing is. If a CME knocks out the grid, no one is going to have any idea what's going on because they weren't paying attention. This not knowing will only add to the unrest.

Although. Learning to live without lazy electricity would be good for our species I think.

Well an interesting subject could be the thermodynamics of transformers. Some PCB nationalist issue as well in it.

That's a good one. I've got to check that on the WWW.:bobby:

In the year 774 AD, the Anglo-Saxon Chronicle mentioned... "a red cross appeared in the skies of Britain."

Yep, I'm definitely thinking about stocking up on some food and water, etc. right now.

    And a lead-lined umbrella.
