Don't know if this counts- I'm an American, but I am half Rhodesian (Zimbabwean). Still got family over in Africa scattered throughout Zimbabwe and South Africa. Always wanted to go and check out the homeland and meet some of the family, but I hear things are unbearably terrible over there, unfortunately. Too bad, places like JoBurg and Harare looked like they were amazing at one point. Not that I'm defending apartheid in South Africa or anything like that, but it really makes me sad what is going on over there these days. Zimbabwe especially, I hear in Harare the only thing you can find at the supermarket is one moldy loaf bread and that the rest of the shelves are completely empty. But maybe it's not as bad as I've been hearing I can only pray.
Hey Banx, I live about half an hour away from Joburg, in Pretoria. Johannesburg isn't that bad, there are some dodgey areas but it's easy to stay clear of them. I'm actually heading up to Zim in August, really amped. Planning to do some bungee jumping at Victoria Falls Ai, things may be tough but you always got to make the best of things!
That's great to hear. Over here in the US, they make everything seem like it is a lost cause in Africa. But obviously not. Americans are so ignorant to the situation over there in South Africa and Zim, it makes me mad just to think about it. Sometimes I wish my grandparents had emigrated and took my dad over to Australia instead lol. But who knows though, give the US 20-30 years, and it might just be on the same level as South Africa or Zimbabwe. With the way things are going now, it really wouldn't surprise me. You're so lucky though. I would kill to get over to Zimbabwe right now and see the country before it gets any worse. You South African's all gotta at least try to promise me to keep JoBurg and Cape Town in tact for me, for when I come see and it one day. Have a great trip to Zim though.
Cape Town will always be awesome! The surfing there is great... The only factor that's pulling South Africa down is the government. Greed is a nasty trait.
I'm from Cape Town. I am a budding nudist and if anyone is ever keen to join me at a beach please give me a shout. Nudism in the african sun is great and even better when you have company...:sunny:
Grahamstown has an awesome vibe, stayed up there for 2 weeks with some relatives and loved it! But yeah.. Jo'burg, then lived in Waterval Boven in the Transvaal for a bit, then moved to Cape Town. Now in the UK, but I go back to Cape Town every 8 months for about 4 weeks to chill with my dad. Probably gonna end up moving back, miss everything about the country - even the muggers. At least back there they're threatening, as opposed to being 12 and holding a pointy stick, there's no adrenaline from that
