Regardless of what you think of Hip Hop music, this classic, released in 1995 by the southern hip hop group Goodie Mob, is truly a masterpiece. Everything from the lyrics to the instrumentals are simply dialed in. Pretty much a flawless album that combines hip hop and soul music. These guys clearly saw the truth in things, too. This is where Cee Lo got his start, before he sold his soul to the music industry. Just do yourselves a favor and listen to this thing in its entirety.
This album is better than B.B.Q Chicken. Collard Greens, and Black Eyed Peas, with a side order of cornbread, and sweet potato pie for desert
Good album But I'm a little disappointed, I thought this was going to be a thread about actual soul food .
I admit, despite what I just posted in the music forum, when it comes to hip hop, I'm stuck in one little groove. Basically, all the stuff that was popular in the early 90s. Snoop, Dre, Biggie, all that kind of stuff. But I started losing interest in after about '96 or so. Never really kept up with it. But every now and then I find myself listening to some Death Row or Bad Boy
I remember a song in which the chorus was "and whitey's on the moon." I think it was back in the late 60s after whitey actually landed on the moon. It was like rap and it was a black guy lamenting the state of black folks while all that money was spent on getting to the moon. I've never heard it again after that 1st time. Maybe the guy should be given credit for rapping back then.
Hip Hop... I just can't listen to it right I guess. Can't get my head around it. I used to like Jurassic 5 a little. I had a friend who was into the Beastie Boys. We heard some Pharcyde (old) stuff too. I can still dig Beastie Boys "Hello Nasty" though. But even Eminem (who it seems like everyone is into) sort of rubs me the wrong way; though I like his song with Rihanna (at least I think it's Rihanna. pretty sure). I am trying to be more culturally diverse, but I really and genuinely get turned off by the n word. Or violence. Or misogyny. But I like beats, rhythm, and rhymes. There's this one song on the radio that I avoid when it comes on. Some of you probably know the one I'm talking about where the artists talk about a girl "Strip it down for a thug, yo"... Am I hatin' if I'm just not into that? I don't know if you know what I mean. Anyway, typically I like the more musical aspects of hip hop. But then, maybe I'm trying to whitewash it or something. I don't know wtf maybe I should be over myself and listen to hip hop already. Or maybe hip hop doesn't need me. It just doesn't matter..
Man, I saw this thread title and thought it was actually a thread about soul food and got realllly excited to proclaim my love for mashed potatoes, collard greens, and cornbread.
i thought this was actually a thread about soul food and i was excited to find out what exactly soul food actually consists of. as far as i've been able to tell without doing any actual research, it seems to be any food cooked by black people?
