go for country joe and the fish. they have many protest songs, the most famous of which is the "i-feel-like-im-fixin-to-die-rag". the website www.countryjoe.com has a tab of it.

    other protest songs:
    for what its worth-buffalo springfield
    signs-five man electric band
    eve of destruction-barry mcguire
    volunteers-jefferson airplane
    its good news week-hedgehoppers anonymous
machine gun-jimi hendrix (obviously not acoustic)

    hope that helps

the best song ever to play is knocking on heavens door. It is super easy and you can jazz it up if you feel like it. It is so fun to play because it is easy and fun to sing along to. It is also fun to play in groups of large people.

    here it is...
    GG DD AmAmAmAm
    GG DD CCCC

    have fun!

I really liked the acoustic version of under the bridge, by RHCP.
Of course, this was with hillel, and not JF. I saw a clip of anthony and hillel singing it floating down a river in italy. It was really beautiful

If you want some some hippy type acoustic songs to play then try the album/Cd 'CJ Fish' by Country Joe & The Fish. It has some easy to learn great acoustic tunes, also 'Working Mans Dead by GratefulDead. :)
