But why do you agree with skinheads and why do you want imperial Germany back

Well it's not that I agree with them. I agree with the song. Whatever political ideals and racial ideology they hold is their burden. It has nothing to do with me. But if a band has something to say then I'm going to listen. Beats the hell out of the other rubbish sung in the mainstream musical world.

I just like the look of the imperial flag. The gold really makes our flag look quite ugly. =(

I'll give you that, the German flag is pretty ugly, and tri-colors as a whole with every country that has them are pretty dull. If there's one thing the US and Britain have going for it it's we have cool flags.

It doesn't look so bad when they throw the eagle in the center but yeh, the whole "gold" color is just wrong. The Aussie flag is quite nice despite that horrible Union Jack in the corner. >.> Without it though it's pretty bare. All the colors mix in well.

Agreed, New Zealand's flag is almost the same, but the stars on their flag are basically red, and it just makes it ehhh.

Could be worse, you could have Libya's flag, it's literally nothing but a green rectangle.

Kaiser Friedrich Wilhelm II might not be well liked by everyone. He was a prominent nationalist and militarist, and he let the military convince him that the problems of his day could be solved, Bismarck style, with blood and iron.

As for democracy and whether it is suitable for Germany or not, let me say first that I've never been to Germany. My impression is that Germans are mostly very proud of their democratic government and their successful economy. I doubt that many of them would want an autocrat back. Furthermore, the narrow nationalism championed by the Kaiser is considered to be obsolete and dangerous today, the European Union being a much more successful model for managing European affairs.

The record speaks for itself. W.Germany has enjoyed over fifty years of peace and prosperity under liberal democratic conditions that where nurtured by initial US investment and protected thereafter by its nuclear umbrella. One should also emphasize and Institutional arrangements that facilitated Franco-German cooperation rather than conflict. Then again peace and prosperity are not as exiting as engaging in total war and national suicide.

I don't think Irmasul wants the German flag to be changed for political reasons, I just think she thinks it's a really ugly flag as it currently is, which really it is.

    *edit*
Also the EU is terrible and has a democracy record of basically "here, vote again, but vote the right way this time." I'm willing to bet the Lisbon Treaty has played a good role in the fact that since it came into effect, essentially every single country in Europe that has had an election has moved to the right, ones that were on the left moved right, and ones that were on the right moved more to the right, minus local elections in France where the left made big gains due to Sarkozy's current unpopularity. It's not exactly popular to bring an international treaty that has vast implications for your country into effect without a popular vote, 1 country out of 27 got to vote. Cause you know the politicians remember what happened last time, France voted, and unexpectedly voted no, Netherlands voted and voted no, Britain was due to vote, and polls were showing a massive no. So change a few things in it, change the name from European Constitution to Lisbon Treaty, and just have parliaments vote on it instead.

The tri color found its place for historical and political reasons.

Australia may well end up with a tri-color.

No body is saying the EU is perfect. Far from it.
