An ananas (called pineapple by dubious people) is basically a together fused pile of berries. It also doesn't grow on an ananas (or pine obviously) tree. But often grows on other trees/plants. Never knew. I have other fascinating facts about ananas but not learned recently.
The Japanese said since they could not conquer Hawaii, they would buy it. First they sent many Japanese to work the fields and chop the ananas into little pieces that fit into cans. The native Samoan women were larger and better suited to that job of swinging a meat cleaver all day long, but the Japanese gained weight and some 80% of Islanders are now at least part Japanese. They know a good island for fishing when they see one, and Hawaii is 2,000 miles from anywhere, while they own most of Honolulu now.
The TK-80 which was a computer popular in Japan in the mid-70's used a Hexadecimal keyboard. I found this interesting because Hexadecimal, which is a base-16 numbering system, is utilized frequently these days in addressing for various ports and protocols and assembly languge as well.
3rd Century BC Eratosthenes calculated the circumference of the earth within a 2% margin of error 1700 years before Columbus, who screwed up calculations because he mixed up the Roman mile with the Arabic mile. Which is why they initially thought America was India
Even more impressive Columbus actually crossed the Atlantic succesfully and discovered the americas for us :-D And very comforting and hopeful for other peeps who aren't the sharpest where it comes to math
You can download certain things from soundcloud as Mp3s, but it's pretty flippin' uncommon actually. I looked through Moby's, Jack Johnson's, and 311's, but most of the stuff they have is not set up for download. There's some stuff for more electronic artists I've noticed, but even that is few and far between.
I take it back. So what I've really learned about SoundCloud is that the content of major producers & bands is usually limited to 30 second snippets of their album material that is available to purchase some other way.
