If you truly feel sorry for what you did, then you wouldn't be afraid to face what is coming to you. It's your hard-earned karma. Accept it, make peace with it, and live.

    crime and punishment:)

it seems like it should be petty theft. it varies ion a state by state basis af far as punishment. my guess is petty theft. possibly breaking and entering. contrition is always good in trials. as an adult your record should sustain no real damage

If he really accepted that what he did was wrong then he'd have come to understand that any punishment he gets (to a point, I'm not talking major prison time here) is justified, including our ridicule.

That being said, go fuck yourself you sack of shit. There's nothing lower than someone who assumes they can fuck with other people's lives for their own benefit without serious consequences.

As far as I know your record won't suffer any major damage unless you live in a particularly hard-ass state, and assuming you actually learn something from this you should be fine in the future. Employers, etc will try to see if you've changed, not focus on shit like this.

If you get tried as a minor then you're fine, but if they try you as an adult, YOU ARE FUCKED. On that note, I hope they try you as an adult being as to you are 17 and should have known better. When you go to court be sincere and remorseful. If you're lucky, the judge will have sympathy, though you deserve none.

I think the person who said - 'if you apologize...' is on the right track. I guess all the stuff was found - (eg - when you got caught you must have had the stuff on you, & the cops took it & gave it back to the original owners ... I guess - or I hope) - and you didn't damage any property right? you only tried cars that were open, if I understand correctly. If yoiu broke doors, or scratched cars, people would be a lot less likely to forgive

Do you have a lawyer to help you with this? If not, call some lawyers and ask if they can help a 17 yo so he won't get charged as an adult. (are your parents helping you with this at all?)

when you deal with the authorities, the #1 thing they are looking for is contrition -You need to humbly and freely admit that you did wrong. What happened anyway? Did you just get carried away? If you got carried away, what part of you didn't do what it was supposed to do & tell you - 'whoa - bad idea'. If I were in your shoes, I'd try to think on that, and try to come up with something so that faced with a similar choice in the future, you'll be able to say to yourself 'whoa - bad idea' and have yourself listen this time.

You did fuck up - but everybody is allowed one major fuck up in their life, I think, and it happened to you pretty young. Whatever direction you might be headed in, use this mistake to make a course correction in a less sketchy direction

(& ps - another useful thing - don't tell anyone else about it. Even if you did make a mistake - not everyone will understand, and they will see you differently. If no-one new in your life knows about it, even if you know about it, it will be kind of like it never happened...)

Don't fuck with another man's car. That's all I got to say.
