so today I met somebody who actually knows my HF profile.. It was a ver strange experience. I was browsing something with an account name similar to my HF username and she happened to notice and was all like Hey are you Hedgeclipper from hipforums? And I was like WTF!! I don't think she was even a member though... I guess that high google rating means that this board actually has a lot of online presence... like shit people actually read this!

ever had anything like this happen to you?

 

No but it could. I go by Aerianne with lots of real life people. I'm careful not to put certain things on here.

I have family and friends who know I come on here.I don't mind - I'm pretty open.I'm often talking about Hip with friends and family.I think my cousin Stephanie has visited here a couple of time to have a look.

i think i once met penny who used to be on here. i forget what here user name was and i thought she was over in europe somewhere.

i often fantacize meeting people in real life i might have met on line somewhere.
not to get to know them really, just out of curiosity to see who they really are.

one of the reasons i go to conventions and other events with groups that share my interests is to meet people i've met on line.

often meeting them once is enough. but i am always curious.

when i was little and my dad worked for the railroad, well my dad was gregarious and i used to hang out at the depot a lot because i like trains (i'm sure you would have never guessed), there were always people knowing who i was who i had no idea they were. this was before the internet, so at that time the natural assumption for me was that they were someone who worked for the railroad and knew my dad.

also, since i'm no good at remembering names and faces in real life, it is not unusual for someone to remember me, from ghad only knows what or where, and for me to not ever be quite sure who they were or where or when i may have met them.

to completely randomly run into someone form online somewhere and to recognize them and be recognized by them, i think that's great.

i mean its still only 'ships in the night', but its kinda cool to meet and say hi.

 

so she just asked if you were Hedgeclipper and you said yeah or did you actually say wtf? then end of discussion? that's it?
If that happened to me, I'd probably try to befriend the person and ask if they wanna get coffee (haha I'm clingy) and ask if they saw this or that thread... I'd probably weird them out.
