August 31, 2005 Hoosier group rescues man in Biloxi, Miss. Related articles • Ind. Guard to help areas hit by Katrina By Diana Penner diana.penner@indystar.com Hoosier rescuers discovered a survivor of Hurricane Katrina today inside a shattered Biloxi, Miss., home, marking the first time in the 13-year life of Task Force One that its members have rescued someone alive after a disaster. Bill Brown, supervisor of the team and an Indianapolis firefighter, said the rescue of a 70-year-old man buried in debris in his home but without life-threatening injuries boosted the morale of his 34 rescuers. http://www.indystar.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=/20050831/NEWS01/50831014/1006 An extra 10,000 troops are being sent to the worst-hit areas in the states of Louisiana and Mississippi. http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/world/americas/4203302.stm http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/americas/4208986.stm After noticing the 'negative' spun threads about 'finance' 'planning' 'if only it was not for iraq' 'it is all basicaly bushes fault' 'the goverment hates black people so aint helping' etc etc etc .... wich imho is complete biased bullshit... I thought i would post some 'good news' . Anyone wishing to add some 'good news' feel free... Any bugger posting anything negative please think before you do.. there are plenty of other threads that will fully appreciate your sense of the negative and who people think the blame rests on...go post it there [i won't add my positive thoughts in those [threads] if you don't and your negative thoughts in mine] this seems fair..
At least none of you are there. You are at home or where ever arguing over would have could have should haves. When I looked at the gas prices to myself this morning driving my little Honda to work, I though, holy crap that is ridiculous, as the sun shone down on me, I realized, holy crap, at least I can get up to a beautiful day and drive my car to work. I like to argue with the best of you, but right now, its time to just chill out on each other and think about how we can help someone else rather than put them down for having a different opinion from our own. Who cares how when where and why, its over and done with, now is time to take care of the situation not point fingers. There will be plenty of time for that later. Thanks for the positive thread. We sure need it.
David Duke's house was ruined, which is good news. By the way that's the same David Duke who's always warning us about the NEW WORLD ORDER CONSPIRACY!!!1!!!!1!1!!!one!!1!!
matthew thank you for creating this thread!!! so many are quick to post blame! we have been hearing alot on the news about how there are all these terrible things that pepole are doing! i still belive that is the exeption!! pepole do terrible things all the time! we are not hearing the good that pepole are doing in the face of their own tragedy!! trying to keep pepole alive! some who might pick your pocket in good times might be the pepole that save lives in the here and now the reports of lawlessness imo has been over blown! there are pepole that lost it all and doing their best to keep pepole safe and sane . and i applaud them!!!!!!!!!
I said good news 'say no to drugs kids' I had never heard of him before . One picture says it all! Here is a typical scene from New Orleans. White rescuers saving Blacks from the flood. While this has gone, massive numbers of Blacks have targeted and preyed upon the new Orleans White population with racial hatred, rape robbery and murder. They have even robbed, shot and killed some Whites who gave of themselves to rescue them! Tell me, that we European Americans should not be upset about this! I know more about this person now [from this brief passage]..than i have wished http://www.davidduke.com/ This news you bring is now headed 'extremly good news'.. thanks.
Not really outwieghing the 'negative' but worth a try anyway. The 'good will' of others is truely a peice of 'good news' .
Fats Domino making it out is positive. Although you won't find much of it in the news, because of the locale I live in we're getting alot of hurricane victims coming through. They don't really have a home to go back to and most are looking for loved ones as well. The local community has actually put aside religious, political, and cultural differences on this one and is really pulling together. Several shelters have opened up with supplies coming in every day. Everything from clothes to yes, even boomboxes and gameboys The food drives are now beginning to show a good stock and plenty of people are volunteering to cook and clean on kitchens and distribution efforts. Several people have even opened up their homes to families with children who don't want to stay in a shelter. Outside of the basic survival needs, one of the most important aspects of just lending a listening ear and handing out hugs and shoulders to lean on is spreading as well. Also the local IT community has pitched in for spare terminals,wi-fi set up, and coding to set up local bulletin boards and connecting to all the other boards for finding family members. A local philanthropist donated 10 brand new Dells to the effort and is footing the electric bill on the shelter which is to house the new computers. This is only in my small area but I am positive that the efforts of other Americans are growing just as well. Americans are truly showing their grist and heart and our honest ability to get through dire circumstances when we work together on common ground.
Fats Domino making it out is positive. yeah , just talking about the drugs .. though only tongue in cheek. Thanks for the added good news.. gotta find some myself now:&
and he slips trying to insert a spin on his own thread.. nice try... really. But, hey let's celebrate herrings by eating them. I am positive that herrings are quite acceptable to starving people. So are catfish, crappie, shrimp, crawfish(though hard pressed till mid november in abundance), okra, tomatoes, some fresh cut squash and asparagus. Sprouts of all kinds. Wiild meat donated by traditional hunters. Right now, the garden season is coming to an end and many have the fruits of their labor stored up in deep freeze, they've made preserves, or they've dried strips of meat. Don't let it go to waste. Contact your local food drive for hurricane help. In each town you will find at least a a Ministerial alliance willing to distribute what you have to give. In others, you will find many other hands. There is no minimum. Give what you can spare. This may be in food, hygienic, or simply volunteering to help physically. Right now, the basic ideal is to share what you have to share. Volunteers are asking for no more than that. If you want to share more, then do so. Good on you for any help you can contribute large or small. One can of tomatoe soup, ten cans of tomatoe soup, give what you can. No help is too small. Give what you can, share your resources, and share some hope. If you have nothing more to give, then share your heart, it's worth it's weight. peace.
thank you. that's what i'm always saying. people are just people. sometimes people lose their damned minds, but THAT'S the stuff that people pay attention to. nevermind the thousands of people doing the right thing and rising to the effort.
I hope that this will focus the attention of the U.S. government back on the U.S. The problem with Orleans has been talked about for decades but not much has been done. The situation with the electrical grid and refineries being run to their max hasn't been dealt with either. It certainly will end Bush's Iraq talk circuit at military bases for a while and put attention back on the U.S. infrastructure. .
well, it goes right back to the problem with us americans thinking nothing bad will ever happen to us, despite all OBVIOUS evidence to the contrary. "bad things happen to people in OTHER countries, not here!" well, get over that nonsense, we're just as vulnerable as anyone to natural disaster. our preparedness was pitiful, ESPECIALLY on the part of the Big Easy. they knew how vulnerable they were, they knew the financial demographics of their people.
There's a lot of federal help coming in now. The size and number of the vehicles is really something. The U.S. government can do a lot of good in its own country if it wants to. Many of us like to bash the government, but think about how things would be in Orleans without any federal help. That situation in the convention center would have gone on and on. True that help came days late but think of how it would be if there was no federal help at all. 6000 people died because of a hurricane in Galveston around 1900. They didn't have all the technology such as GPS, internet, and weather satellites to help them, much of which has arisen through federal government programs. .
Humourous stuff. MSNBC showed the line of people waiting to get on a bus and out of Orleans. A young man was holding a baby and masquerading as a woman. He had a pink blouse on, a wig with dreads, and a nice looking silver purse. The cops at the door of the bus didn't get fooled and pulled his wig off and tossed it on the ground. They gave the baby back to its owner and the dude didn't get his ride out. .
Are people 'survivors' getting a $1000 debit card .. i read it but it has been dismissed in other places.. my usual ability to find info about most things seems to be failing today..
