I'm left-handed, but my mom tried desperately to "fix" this....taking things from my left hand and putting them in my right, etc.... I'm told this causes a lot of self-doubt and second-guessing of ones self in life as we grow older, which explains a lot regarding myself. I'm wondering if someone did these things to your daughter when she was little, as her symptoms mirror some of my own. I wouldn't consider it abuse unless the one doing it knew the effect it would have, but most caregivers didn't. Left-handedness was, like thumb-sucking, considered something that must be corrected or fixed at all costs to make one conform to society's accepted norms back then (50's-60's). Your daughter is no freak of nature. She's adapted to her environment, and quite well, it seems. By the way, an example of the kind of ambidextrious behavior this "fixing" of our left-handedness would cause can be seen in a piano player who walks around the keyboard switching hands as he/she goes, playing upside-down or inverted, and continuing around the keyboard switching hands back to a normal right-handed position. I think it causes our minds to transpose on-the-fly or invert our playing. Not the best example, but it's what I have. Doing some, but not all things left or right-handed is another. Some things I still can't make up my mind on (I'm 65). I quit doing art when I was young. I still write and play music, however, much to my dad's everlasting annoyance. He told me he doesn't like music at all. I hope your daughter continues her art. She has talent.
I probably would never get to it. I haven't been doing either for a while now, as I have no outlet for such things and dad complains miserably everytime he hears music, whether mine or someone else's. I still play, but don't write anything anymore.
I hope I'm not stealing any thunder here Candy Gal. This is an unfinished piece she's doing of my old mate Boof the Blue Cattle Dog. He passed away three years ago. Obviously his ears need finished and the background too. Yes his ears were that big. I nicknamed him Dumbo. She's taking ages to finish it. Busy girl. So I took a pick anyway.
