Sex is pretty much everywhere (these forums are a perfect example). It seems like the controllers use sex because it is a distraction. Also, when it's heavily promoted it creates a lot of dysfunction in society in terms of promiscuity, STD's, failed relationships, children without fathers, etc. It seems like the more sexually liberated society has become, the more enslaved it has become as well. It reminds me of this passage which comes from the foreword to Huxley's Brave New World. If you look at Rome before its fall, it was a very similar situation to what we have in modern-day America.
Sex is slavery, and people don't even realize it. They just think they are really cool, free and liberal.
I think there are 2 aspects. 1)Sex can be used as part of our health management/exercise, and as a way of connecting with people of the opposite sex. 2)Our sexual desires in contrast, can be misused and abused. For instance in advertising. Or to appeal to greed, insecurity etc. Or against lame people, for instance those who allow themselves to be exploited by an attractive but devious person. For some people, sex is all about perceived "rebellion". Which creates a lot of total bullshit (see other threads!) I've known some dim people devote their whole lives to a career they don't remotely like, because they think success will make them attractive to attractive members of the opp sex. Our sexual energy is very powerful. It can be used, channeled or even redirected positively or negatively. But I don't think we can ever deny that it exists.
personally i think its the less sexually liberated people that talk about sex the most in the world, while others just enjoy it for the normal thing it is.
I always think its the middle class who are the most uncomfortable with sex. Working class and upper class people are the opposite. Certainly in Britain.
Sex is perfectly normal and natural and absolutely essential to maintain perfect physical and mental health. Now let me get back to this rather stimulating conversation I’ve been having over the internet with a police officer posing as a 13 year old girl. Her parents are going to be away this weekend and she’s home alone – how convenient Hotwater
I'm thinking more the women. But middle class women consider talking about sex to be "common" or it makes them feel insecure, as they try and build an image of "class/sophistication". Working class women couldn't care less what people think. Nor could the upper class, because they think that they make the definitions. (PLus the school boarding aspect). Men tend to take their lead from the feedback they get from the women they associate with. The above is only my view of Britain. I mean, it all varies round the world. For instance, Irish Catholics have subdued views on sex. Whereas, Italian and Lat Americans are the opposite.
In the 80s, British music had 2 forms of rebellion. . The anti-Thatcher government rebellion against the views and abuses of the elite. And the homosexual/crossdressing Boy George/Marilyn type rebellion against the views of most people. Have a guess which one the Establishment's music industry supported, and which one it refused to allow to flourish? So now, a man has a "right" to stick his tongue down another man's throat while wearing a dress in public. He does not have the right to a fair wage, healthcare or a job ahead of 3rd world immigrants. But he DOES have the "right" to have his dick cut off, and false tits implanted for free, courtesy of the taxpayer... Creating the illusion of freedom, I suppose.
I think it's like that movie cliche, when people know they are going to die, they figure why not go out banging. We feel that we are on the verge of collapse and we are trying to get our last kicks in. Or; we just can't find anything better to do.
Desire for sex is an instinct. Human creativity and emotion take it to higher levels. I agree with Piaf, in that we are slaves to it, but we are also slaves to water, food and air. I believe it can interfere with other things in life when taken to excess. However, I don't see the logic in repressing a natural urge. An urge that when acted on in a respectful way in which no one is, or feels like a victim, can become a pleasurable, living work of art.
I think the fact that we are (including me) possessive, insecure, and the fact that we make such a big deal about sex is proof that we are not advanced enough. Sex controls us and it shouldn't.
Probably because it feels good. I wouldn't say I'm obsessed, but it is a very important part of my life.
I definitely think people are being targeted and triggered into sexual deviance and obsessions by the media. One thing that I find really odd in this forum is that very often, when a post is about a relationship people automatically assume it's all about sex. I really don't understand that.
