A few WIC comes. to mind. But. Trump wants to get rid of many of these.. Probably all. I remain a proud Socialist.. Excuse my brevity today. Bad hand shaking
True. The government loves to take liberties with the poor folks. The problem gets worse with the cure. I like your name. btw. Is Lonnie Donagan t disease. heheQUOTE="Adamskiffle, post: 8069383, member: 294636"]Most political and economic models start to generate problems when taken to an extreme....my main issue with socialism from a UK person's perspective is that it's not properly means tested (+ means testing in-itself can generate problems in relation how you means test & also whether or not it even makes economic sense to mt) which leads to 10% of people on benefits etc get way too much & 10% don't get enough + whenever you closely invite the government into your life you are effectively giving them permission to fuck with you. Private businesses & charities often do a much better job of helping people than the government do.[/QUOTE] True. The government often offers a cure which is worse than the disease. I like your name. Does your chewing gum lose its flavor on the bedpost overnight? Gotta love Lonnie Donegan.
[ These are all good programs, I agree. My problem is in calling them "socialist", which equates socialism with the welfare state. Six-eyed Shaman, backed by libertarian think tanks, was fond of telling us that the Scandanavian countries are capitalist, not socialist. I agree. But they have a safety net, high progressive taxes, and welfare programs out the wazoo. How could they not be socialist? Because the means of production and distribution are in private, not public, hands--which seems to be an essential difference. socialism socialism | Definition, History, Examples, & Facts
I'm happy with the socialism I've grown up with: Fire Dept. Police Dept. Postal Highways Social Security Medicare
Except none of them are, strictly speaking, socialist. All societies with governments have police, fire, postal, and roads. Entitlement programs like Social Security and Medicare are variations on welfare programs found in most industrial countries, especially the "capitalist" Scandanavian countries, only more so. Why does his matter? Because the right wingers try to discredit virtually every exercise of the federal government's power to tax and spend for the general welfare as "socialist", yet balk when it comes to Scandanavia because those countries are doing so well economically but have a far more extensive safety net and welfare system than we do. Bernie adds to the confusion on this by calling them "democratic socialism". They are in fact social democracies, with the means of production and distribution in private hands but high and progressive taxes to fund the social programs.
Socialism is bullshit, but so is capitalism. All the evidence indicates that communism is not competitive, but nor is laze fare capitalism, and almost nobody in the world has either one, or wants them. Life is rich, because you can eat the rich! The problem is not capitalism, but stupidity, which I'm afraid has destroyed the minds of academics everywhere, so I'm going to show them how to use a sense of humor, to automate instant karma, and easily upset the nasty apple cart they keep overcharging everyone for! The future is a meritocracy, enforced by computers making it impossible to distinguish between who is human and machine. The newest quantum encryption and my work on AI, means you will either join the Karma network, and learn how to share your words and play nice, or be systematically mocked by machines.
