    Why socialists don’t like Christmas
    -It is a Christian festival
-it’s a time for charitable giving, not government coercion
-It is about family unity rather than the state
-it promotes commerce and individual consumerism
    -It’s “white”

It is not historically. Things like the tree are pagan. The Christians took it over.

Yeah a time when you give to other people from your means since you can, A love to the collective group that helps you mom friends etc.

So it's pretty socialist to me.

Giving gifts is a form of voluntarism though. Under voluntarism, you don't need government coercion. Unlike socialism.

But, come to think of it, I can see how Christmas can inspire socialism in youth

Yeah quite a lot of the Bible is socialist. I'm not sure where this right wing crap comes from regaridng the day. Jesus is a long haired broke middle eastern guy. He's all about sharing and love not who is rich. Feel free to quote some Bible passages if you think any fit you. I can find them for "socliast" ideas.

Socialists look to the future and never the past.

They simply don’t learn from their failures in history because they are “progressives” who focus on the future as they ignore the past.

And they own public school history departments too so they can revise whatever they want.

6, I don't think that's true. We are looking at the future and knowing full well there's going to be a price to pay. But there is disagreement about who should pay the price. It's a hefty ticket to be sure... But what if corporate taxes picked up some slack to compensate for all of the outsourcing, or like when Clinton was talking about an 'exit tax' when you move your business out of the country. Those are the sorts of things that seem sensible to me.

I think that history shows that that cost is high. You feel that we're ignoring that because we aren't talking about it, and I admit it does have me wondering. I believe the proposal is an adjusted tax structure though.

I suppose we should privatize the police, the fire departments, government agencies the pre college education system, the national and federal parks, ?? Sure--that'll work. Capitalism is working quite well for the fuckers in the drug industry that just raised the price of a drug for 40 dollars to---wait for it---39,000 dollars!!!!!!!! Register Guard--in Eugene, today.

I like the idea of private police force. One that my neighborhood can have closely stationed in our community with a fast response time. A police force that will actually bust people who harm others, and not a government police force that arrests pot smokers, jaywalkers, and people who post “mean” tweets.

Everything can be made to sound nice in theory. But its rather obvious why a private police force is unwanted.

Ask yourself: what does it actually mean to be free? Are you truly free if you are unable to go to a doctor when you are sick, or face financial bankruptcy when you leave the hospital? Are you truly free if you cannot afford the prescription drug you need to stay alive? Are you truly free when you spend half of your limited income on housing, and are forced to borrow money from a payday lender at 200 percent interest rates? Are you truly free if you are seventy years old and forced to work because you lack a pension or enough money to retire? Are you truly free if you are unable to go to attend college or a trade school because your family lacks the income? Are you truly free if you are forced to work sixty or eighty hours a week because you can’t find a job that pays a living wage? Are you truly free if you are a mother or father with a newborn baby but you are forced to go back to work immediately after the birth because you lack paid family leave?

    Why would that be?

Here's an example of private police in action.

Ok. I think I understand your argument. You don't like the huge government idea.

But what do you say about the social programs? I mean we have Social Security after all... What about the healthcare? We have Medicare too - albeit not "for all". What if you were entitled to food? Or tuition? How would that be? Well we have financial aid for college kids.

Some of these are fine ideas.

  18. The government is already big enough to decide the fate of our lives for us. It's just up to us to decide which fate they're going to promote.

There's really no such thing as "more government." There is such a thing as more effort, though.

Regarding social security, if the government never took any money from our paychecks in the first place, we might have enough for us to retire on. It's a ponzi scheme. Not to mention when someone knows your social security number, it makes ID theft a lot easier. Healthcare would be more cost effective if government backed off and stopped trying to control prices and regulations. Economies and markets are very complex entities to manage, and should not be left to imperfect and corruptible government officials to manage. My grandfather was a surgeon back in the mid-20th century. He did free house calls, and when he had a patient who couldn't pay his bill, he would accept a different means of exchange. For example he had a patient teach his kids piano lessons in exchange for some of his medical services. Doctors cannot do that anymore under current policy. Education would be more accessible and higher quality too without government. Colleges today have become diploma mills, pumping out graduates who have little to zero life skills, and they fail hard in the work force with mountains of debt behind them. I argue that this is all done by design, to keep and maintain an impoverished class that's reliant on the political class for sustenance. Education would be better in a market based system where the best teachers get the most students that are willing to sign up for their classes. And these teachers get paid based on the number of students that get passing grades. The higher the grades, the higher the paychecks. Under the government education system, excellent teachers get paid exactly the same as crappy teachers..

Have you ever met anyone who has lived under communist rule?
