Why would they not give those surgeries? Sounds like you have a personal objection to those life choices. It's none of your business. Doctors have a skill and people will pay for it. I agree they are not needed surgeries and can't be tax funded if it means people with cancer suffer.

That's because people want to privatize it like the American system. The NHS model by nature is not bad. Have they made some mistakes? Probably but it seems to be mostly racism and a misunderstanding of economics. So they say the Muslims and Polish use the system too much so why should our tax help them. I don't agree with that.

I am aware taxes pay for it. Free= taxes paid for it at one point so I don't have a large bill when I need service.

Of course any surgeons would want to provide their "expertise" for a high price.
I literally have no objection to someone profiting as much as they can earn, after all that is how capitalism works and to get people working harder.
My objection is how some people believe who claim that their own countries resources and so services should be completely free for all to anyone and everyone around the world - particularly over their own countrymen, which these days seems to be perceived as racist or whatever political correct nonsense some people seem to bathe in.

Are you an American? if so then your country doesn't really have any experience about such a health system. Britain pretty much invented it, and it worked for its own people for a very long time - until the EU eventually abused it which was one of the reasons for Brexit. I think that these days though there is a big growing demand even among the (poor) people its mainly most benefited for that it should be privatised for - so why should any EU national citizen be able to freely travel to the UK, visa free, claim living expenses with none or to almost none, that was paid for by the British people - and yet if a Briton objects its seen as racism, and then if they protest about it then are classed as right-wing bigots, xenophobes or whatever.

At the of the day the planet is dying. Yet some of the privileged few - be it either rich or poor are bending over backwards getting rid of their own ways of culture/life for the acceptance of other countries ways of lives/religions in the name of multiculturalism, and if they don't think this way are seen as evil people basically against all of humanity, that left-wing protesters blindly call out as fascists.

Regulated by the community as a whole? Yes and no... A community picks up litter and scrubs off all graffiti for free. YES! The majority alienates the one for followers. NO!

    Yes, I am American.

If someone uses a "free" service in another country it's usualy for ethics. No one will give me free food or housing in Belgium is if I visit as a tourist. If I broke my arm they would treat me even though I did not pay any tax. The amount of tourists who use a system for free is small compared to the perceived amount of immigrants who do. That's usualy why people object to such healthcare. Lazy people will just come and they know we will help them no matter what. I can only speak for America but here illegals are usualy reluctant to do anything that puts them on paper. That includes hospitals and so what if they do need some medicine? They are human.I'm fine with people who need help getting the help they need. If my taxes go that it's tax well spent. That's why I admire the NHS. It's not perfect but it's not half a million dollars to have surgery in an emergency room either.

Hey, while we're stealing...I mean redistributing the wealth...uh, forwarding social justice or whatever...I'd really like a cherry '67 'Cuda. As long as the majority doesn't object it's OK, right? As long as we take it from someone we don't think deserves it....right?

From an economic standpoint the game is rigged and getting more so. Since 1980 the concentration of wealth has been increasing at increasing rate. The wealthy have bought the political system and had laws that favor them in everything from taxes to inheritance. Most of us never even come close to having the so called death tax kick in. What we really have is a perverse socialism for the rich and corporations at the expense of everyone else. History quiz ...remember the political event in Nov 1980 that really kicked off the ugly redistribution of wealth upwards?

As somebody living in a North European leftist welfare state, that you all like to accuse of being socialist... I do not recognize any of this from my daily life. Freedom to choose your career, freedom of religion and the right to marry anyone over 18 that only has 2 legs and not 4, check, check and check. What you're describing is called a dictatorship. If anything, we're accused of being much too lenient with our muslims.

I think you are misrepresenting the system. No one is coming to tow your cars away in the system that Mr. Anakin here is talking about.

The original post said we may have to give up the freedom to choose our own careers which is why I asked the question..

Right now no one does this. In a future where greedy capatilsim and global warming have destroyed the world humans might not have the same choices we do now. The Earth gives man so much we take for granted. The reality is that life is going to be very hard for people not yet born. Animals we eat, crops we grow, places we live, all these things will not exist for them due to global warming and the destruction of resources.

Wars over clean water and land will happen and many people will die. Right now water is the final late stage capitalism frontier. It's a free resource for many people and that upsets the elite. Yes, we pay a water bill now but it's also free if you look. Even now it's illegal in some places in America to collect rain water. Why is that? It came from the sky and you did not pay for it. Think of how through human history what was free and easy eventuality costs money.

At one time you could walk across town to your job or maybe have a horse. A horse you buy one time and then pay for food after. Now you need a car which costs more than a horse to buy and maintain. In America it's very hard to have employment with the expense of a car. An elite 1%er gets rich off this since he sold you a society where this is the reality. Same idea with electricity. No one needed it and now we all do to live. Tesla envisioned electricity as a free resource. That is why history labels him as crazy. The 1% rich from oil at the time hated the idea this new resource would not make them more rich so they did not support his research.

Those that are left after there is no water or land will have no choice but to have a socialist society where the human pack must depend on each other. The world will not be able to support the pursuit of personal gain and the living will remember why their loved ones are dead and that is selfish polices. In this kind of future it will be logical to expect people to follow their natural talents and do what is best for society.

Capitalism is essentially the idea that kings are good and so is a monarchy. The difference is a king is entitled from birth and anyone can be king in capatilism if they are strong enough.

In either goverment the idea is that his person deserves to have it all. Something about them is special so most will have less so this person can have more. No matter how bad life was for Europeans in the Middle Ages some of the still loved the king. He is the chosen one from god. Without him life is even worse.

It's simialr to how the poorest Americans will fear socialism. No matter how the system screws them it's not godless socialism. They will find quotes in the Bible that they see as encouraging a class syetem for those who work hard and earn a special class. In the old days they find a passage that says obey a king no matter what.

That idea will not exist one day. Humans will move beyond the idea of earning separation. No one is better even if they do work hard and have a skill. That's where computers come in. This society could be dystopian but it does not have to be.

they seemed to have a whole "no money" thing going on. Not sure about government, but rank and all that? They had ranks. Very orderly.

The ranks are because they're in the navy of their time. A space navy so to speak :p Neither has much to do with government.

The only thing i recall from the top of my head is that the political system is a federation.

    A
I remember the 1980 election well. He rode into town like a shy cowboy, aw shucks, and made America a land safe for greed and selfishness. In my career I’ve worked a lot with income distribution statistics and that is when it all started. Wish we had a solution.

Didn't the country also function when Republicans were in charge in the past? And do past results guarantee future results?
