Madcap: I've been thinking about your post for a good looong while, and I think... I think I get what you're saying. I mean, I know culture isn't a static thing and that you'll find similarities everywhere; and the historical significance Byzantium and the Renaissance... but does such mixing really equate to: Eastern and Western mentalities are the same? That neither has anything unique to offer? Don't you think you are over stating your case just a little? I mean even there still remains fairly large difference between Eastern and Western art, let alone philosophy and culture (although I guess art is a part of culture, but I think that speaks well to my point.)

WaBluska: OK, I finally had the gumption to go back and find the context of your question. Basically, the main difference I think between eastern and western philosophy is the ideas behind the nature of truth. That is to say, the West has generally had the notion to find the truth through the examination of the world around them, and the East by examination of oneself. Ultimately, I think this (I know I'm WAAAAAY over simplifying things here - I know there is much more to it than this) one big reason as to the technical advances humanity saw throughout the Renaissance and even into today.
