It's comments like that, that got me wound up a bit, seeing as I started this thread for the sole purpose of finding out what the term soccer mom is, not to debate whether soccer is for poofs or not. I do understand some of your points and realize that there are no Shaquille O'Neill types in soccer, but that don't mean they are weaklings. I understand what you're saying about the American view on soccer, but seeing that it's the most popular sport everywhere else in the world should tell Americans that there's something that they are missing. But everything's cool though you have your opinion and I have mine, peace.
Listen, mate. I was in a bar in Memphis, TN. I asked the barman (we were the only two there) to put the World Cup final on. He did. He watched with bemused interest for a bit and said "what's this, huh?" I said it was the World Cup, the largest sporting event on Earth. "Nuh-uh. The Superbowl is bigger than this." I pointed out that although almost every American watches the Superbowl, I can guarantee the viewing audience for the World Cup is larger. "You shud come here during the Superbowl. EVERYONE watches the Superbowl." I said, yes, I know that. But the combined populations of Europe, Asia and Africa are glued to this game, and there are more people there than here. "I don't know nobody that watches this soccer stuff. You, you come here during Super Bowl. Superbowl bigger than this." I grabbed an orange. "Pretend this is the Earth." I drew the US on it "You are HERE." I shaded the rest of the Orange "THIS is who is watching this game. This little bit here is the audience for the Superbowl. Millions, sure. But BILLIONS are watching THIS GAME RIGHT NOW. African tribesmen have walked days to be somewhere where they can see this game, any village with rudimentary generators and a black and white thirteen inch television. Europe is paralyzed right now. Asia is at a standstill. South America and Central America are watching this with fervor, as is Mexico." *pause* "Yeah, but the Superbowl is a bigger sporting event than this. Man, EVERYONE watches the Super bowl."
lol. that's awesome. but really, if we're not conditioned to like it like the rest of y'all, ye can't blame us....i grew up thinking that superbowl sunday was a christian holiday.
BTW that was a beauty goal against Arsenal by BWFC this weekend, taking Arsenal out of the cup runnings..... The sheer number of fouls that did NOT go yellow carded by Arsenal was staggering. It was nice seeing the Trotters get the win, they played harder the entire time. Me mam used to be a barmaid at the pub at the Wanderers' grounds....
Where i grew up in the US, literally all kids grew up playing it. Not many have an interest in the professional leagues though, that is true.
