Sophie and Doug, I agree with you guys a hundred percent. I think the france thing was either the rainbow warrior or when they were doing more testing on mururoa attol. Bastard. The reason that america might want ships to come and dock here is for two reasons. 1) we're strategically very good for the south pacific ocean - much better then the southern most part of America and 2) for re-fueling type of things; food, water etc. Argh. Just cos we CAN do something, does that mean we SHOULD?? Um... as for what I don't like about new zealand - its too far away from everywhere (except this shithole, you might have heard of it, its called Australia). But that can be a blessing too. Also, the level of ignorance about big world issues (eg israeli/palestinian conflict) is huge. But thats not entirely the fault of the people. The local news system is crap, you need cable if you want to get a good news channel (ie BBC or CNN). But in general, people are very ignorant about some issues.
BBC rocks, i love that news. yeah it does talk about isreal and palistine a lot, but from the BBC perspective isreal is considered the bad guy, i don't know how the news in isreal portrays things??? ignorance is based these days on news, more than education. pity really. Doug
i'm sick and tired of the israel/palestinian shit. The US, the EU or someone needs to tell both sides to back the hell off, and which ever doesnt gets demolished and lets be done with it. Neither side is going to stop when there are no real consequences to their actions. We've tried for countless years to settle this issue, and both sides keep causing problems. Both need to be shunned by the international community, which wont ever happen.
i say get the US to take back all the weapons it gave isreal. make the entire world cut all trade with both sides. close the boarders with their countries, and let them go for gold with sticks and stones. i think they would soon sit down and talk about stuff, either that or we would stop the world population increasing in that area LOL Alltaken
the french gave them the bomb which is the real problem, not to mention the israel defense research is probably nearly the most sophisticated in the world, even without us supplying them. But why should we cut off funding to just them, we also give several hundred million to palestinians...several billion to egyptians....saudia arabia, kuwait, pretty much every country in that area. None of them deserve money, but if israel wasnt given weapons, they'd probably be all dead by now....its not like the arab countries havent tried before.
nope, but i think the UN needs to put peace keeping troops in israel...which israel wont allow....i dont see any other way though.
thats not always a bad thing, its better than having a president who is hated more than hitler, which is pretty fucking sad(on both sides). anyways, i was reading that lotr almost didnt take place in new zealand and it took new line and peter jackson to basically coerce the new zealand government into giving tax incentives or else they would have went to australia/uk/ireland instead. Guess it was a good move on the part of the NZ govt.
Um... the lack of knowledge about the outside world. Like... that frustrated me BEFORE i left the country... its going to irritate the fuck out of me when I get home. Also, that the frequency of horrible attacks on people for no reason has risen (ie jewish gravestones being smashed, somali people being sent pig entrails and then it being blamed on the jews, the national front (I hate them, fuckers.))
anybodys but america's...that wouldnt go over too well with muslim countries Ideally it wouldnt need to happen, but neither side is going to budge.
the one that was introduced earlier this year? there has been violence since then. And if i recall it doesnt even talk about the right of return of the 'palestinian refugees'. I dont think this plan will solve the problem. How close has israel and palestine come to agreements and had talks fall apart? i hope you're right, but i dont see an end anytime soon to the problem.
