So, when is the U.S. gonna start the air strikes in Syria?

Thats a bit too broad. Not all founding fathers were pro slavery. Some found it to be abhorrent, like John Adams, for instance.

I blame Neville Chamberlain for that more than anybody else, but that's a good subject for a history forum debate sometime. :)

But...is the evidence really 100% airtight? (Remember Iraq!) If not, there will unfortunately be more evidence later. Syria isn't going to stop doing this until they have to.

Yes, but is this as bad as capturing, importing, and selling slaves by the thousands and tens of thousands? Hell no! This was done for decades by men who never became well-known to the public.

And why are you letting the English kings off the hook? The slave trade started when we were a British colony, and the kings made all the rules. The founders of the US were preocupied with getting independence and starting up the government. I wish they had put a priority on ending the established slavery system earlier, but they put off dealing with the problem until Abraham Lincoln finished the job.

If you want to stay mad about history, at least be mad at the right people!

Now THAT'S a racial issue worth our time and attention in 2013 !

It's all wrapped up in economics. Poor people are more likely to committ crimes, and black people are more likely to be poor. Education and jobs are the long-term solutions. No other way to break the cycle.

There's a big article on slavery around the world at Wikipedia.

Oh...btw, I'm sure people have heard by now but apparently the U.S. is going to wait for Congress to approve when they get back in.

Maybe Obama gets another Nobel for peace, for saving yet another country.

I don't know hot, I'm not tribal and wouldn't go kill or kidnap someone because they are from a different area than me. Maybe you should go ask the Africans.

Does everything to you have to be about blacks and whites?

I'd rather listen to a damn bible thumper than someone like you always bitching and moaning about race.

Politically it was a brilliant move on the part of the president.

I didn't say they did, but what's being expressed here is a typical one sided partisan politics argument. And I'm tired of it. It can be argued that the europeans and americans viewed the slaves as property because their own people valued them so little as to kidnap and sell them. I'm not pro slavery but I also don't blow a bunch of smoke and one sided bullshit to gain sympathy or promote an agenda.

I wish we hadn't brought slaves over here, based on the fact it's morally reprehensible and on the fact the blacks are still bitching about it and using that as a reason to not grab hold of and advance their communities. Which I realize can be argued it is sort of a learned helplessness type of situation, but whatever the cause, if Africans immigration to the US had been like other immigrants we would probably have far less problems as a country.

The Senate is expecting to convene before the 9th which should force the republican controlled congress to follow suit.

I think he knew there would be way too much backlash in this country, at this moment in time, if he didn't go about it that way.

And yes, I heard Sept. 9th, However, they could be called back early.

Partisan? I don't see that at all. So, there is now a party in the US that no longer 100% rejects slavery as one of the worst things in the history of the world?

I've never heard that ridiculous load of bullshit before. Not a valid argument at all.

If one of our ancestors had come in a time machine and asked us what we thought of the idea, I suspect most white Americans of today would have said something like, "ARE YOU OUT OF YOUR FUCKING MINDS?"

Yeah, those little kids in dangerous, pathetic schools should be doing a better job of educating themselves.

He has always said that. No change today.

But every day we look around and ask ourselves could it happen again?

I'm staying out of this other than to say you obviously haven't seen the posts that hotwater has made numerous times before tying everything into race... and making comments about OJ Simpson getting off being the greatest day in American history and how he can't condemn the new black panther party (not to be confused with the old black panther party, who wants nothing to do with the new hateful jokers...)....

No, there isn't even the tiniest possibility. :)

The world community didn't even allow South Africa to hang onto apartheid.

I've seen plenty, so I don't expect us to agree on much. But I know we can agree that there is no possible excuse or rationalization for slavery in any form, and there never has been.

I think it's sad that he can't be happy about all the racial progress that has been made in this country.

I'm having a harder time figuring out where Deviate is coming from. Being tough on slavery is a partisan viewpoint? In 1861, it was!

I don't know where you hear that anymore, except the American Nazi Skinhead Party. The KKK has almost died out.

The Zimmerman trial really created quite a rift between certain posters but I’ve dealt with it before when I defended Kobe Bryant , O J Simpson , and Crystal Gail Mangum.

As far as I'm concerned any previous comments are ancient history.
