My reference was to the large number of northers that are racist and that the south isn't the only place it exist but almost always get blamed for the vast majority of racism in the USA.

The first time I saw a confederate battle flag in person I was in upstate NY, hiding in the woods because my friends and I accidentally found a Klan rally. I am descended from runaway slaves on my father's side, and Afro-Caribbean slaves in Barbodos on my mother's side, on which I am third gen American. I grew up in a Jamaican neighborhood in the Bronx, where I witnessed first-hand the prejudices my Jamaican neighbors applied to blacks from anywhere else, though most of it wasn't meant too unkindly. I have been to more than half of the United States and its territories. I have lived all along the East coast, From New England to South Florida and in between. I'm here to tell you. The only difference between northern big city racism and southern country racism is that in the South they more often have the courtesy to show their true colors, and up North, particularly in large cities, they will play along and get along to go along, smiling in your face and hating you behind your back. It comes out of them every day, but it is very subtle.

But wherever there are people there is racism. I had a homeless white lady in Paris, inside a café/patisserie no less, telling me off because of race. Word? I was a manager in a store that attracted a lot of big spending south and central Americans. They would get very upset if they requested a manager and I appeared.

Customers used to ask how my Spanish was so good. And really, there's no alternative. No matter where you go, if people look different or worship a diffent deity, abuse crops up. It's there, somewhere. These are the growimg paims of humanity.
